The First Annual Mike Tomlin Marches the Steelers to the Super Bowl Thread

It’s a lot of fun watching old-style boring Steelers football where we’re just kicking the crap out of people in a methodical way. Yeah, I don’t think any of those three teams are really good, but I’m not complaining. 200 yards rushing again and nearly 200 in Week 2. Why do they have laces in the ball again?

I thought Ben’s pocket presence was outstanding yesterday. Seems like he’s got his head screwed back on straight this year. I counted about 3 or 4 situations yesterday where he would have panicked and forced a ball possibly resulting in a pick. Against the Niners, he either stepped up in the pocket or shed a would-be tackler. Nice to see.

To be fair to Frisco, I thought Nate Clements played a heckuva game.

Returning to this, shall I remind you what I said from the beginning? You know I will, so suck it up for a few minutes while I rub it in:

Who’s the Flavor-Aid drinker now? Your “Pro Bowl” quarterback is on the bench in favor of Brian Griese, who isn’t half the man his dad was. Enjoy the rest of your season, all 13 games of it. If I were you I’d be thinking about who they’ll get with the 10th pick in the draft, not about the playoffs.

OK, they aren’t doing as well as I like, but they are ahead 7-0. I’ll take it. The front line needs to stiffen up and the D seems a tad sloppy (but is still getting it done.)

Ravens suck, Cinci sucks, division is probably yours.

Give the Browns some credit. They’re not the doormat of the AFC North anymore… at least not most of it.

Steelers are down 14-7. Boys, what are you doing?

What the hell is going on in the NFL?

Well it looks like it is over. There is some time left on the clock, but I doubt enough. It is good that we are in first place, but I’m disappointed with the game.

Oh well, time to think about the next game!

Or next year.

I got my High Def setup completed just in time to watch that travesty.

Parker sucked, Ben sucked, everyone was injured, jesus what a mess.

It could have been worse. At least we don’t root for the Bears, who continued their long, downward spiral to mediocrity. Arizona was picked to be good this year, and they needed some good spots and a punt return to do it.

Sure, it sucks to see my beloved Steelers lose, but they had to lose one. Every team loses one eventually. This year it looks like the AFC North is the Steelers’ to win, though, and that’s no small thing.

I wanted to mention that the big bad Ravens defense didn’t get any sacks, which makes it 3 games in a row that the Browns have not allowed any sacks. Derrick Annderson, in fact, has been sacked 1 time this year. 1 by Pittsburgh, 0 times by Cinci (consider how badly they manhandled the Ravens O-line, it’s notable), Oakland which has a decent D-line, and the big bad overrated ratbirds.

A blocked field goal (or a bush league time out call) away from a 3-1 start.

I don’t expect the New England game next week to be anything but ugly. They’re amazing this year.

I was very surprised at the Steelers losing today. Even with the whole coaching connection, we’re talking about the AFC North about the NFC West.

Correction, he got sacked once by Oakland. So 2 in 4 games. Still the least for starting QBs in the league.

The worst part of the whole game for me is that the guy who returned the punt for the TD, Steve Breaston, went to my high school just outside of Pittsburgh (Woodland Hills). Yeah, that hurt.

Zona’s coaches called a good game defensively. Stop the run and make Ben win it. Admittedly, the Steelers made life worse for themselves because of all the dumb penalties. As Dierdorf noted, it was 3rd and forever a lot of the time.

It wasn’t a horrible loss. I just hope they learned something from it.

It was almost like Arizona had some kind of special insight into the Steelers playbook and tendencies on both sides of the ball.

I think we can all enjoy the sweet tears of rat fans.

forum meltdown

Billick really is an arrogant ass. They were running well, but decided to have gimpy McNair pass it ineffectively all day, even before they were too far behind.

That team is going to implode this year and I’m loving it.

If I may continue my semi-hijack:

As most of you should probably know, ESPN is bullshit.

Looking over their week 5 power rankings, the rats are #11.

This is after having lost to the #23 Bengals and the #25 Browns, and barely squeaking by in wins against the #15 Cardinals and #26 Jets.

Their ratings, and their favorable coverage, goes to their media darlings who they want to do well, rather than having any sort of objectivity.

The Browns, for instance - any win we get this year, ESPN explains off as “the other team must’ve not really been trying” and stuff like that. We beat their darling 11th ranked team, and yet only move up from 27th to 25th? Ranked below every other 2-2 team, and even 4 1-3 teams (one of which we beat)?

Sports center had 2 clips - about 10 seconds worth - of the Bal/Cle game, but if it had been the reverse, and Bal had blown out Cle, there’d be about 45 seconds worth.

ESPN has always loved the rats. Every year they’re picked for the superbowl. Every prime time ESPN game the rats get onto… the announcers all masturbate while signing the praises of stabbin’ Ray. It’s disgusting.

Could be a tough game today. Mcfaden, Troy and Ward all out. Ward will be missed, but I think we have enough other good offensive weapons that we can recover, but McFaden and Troy will be tough to do without.

On a different note: This is the first time I’ve watched the CBS pre-game. I have to say that Cower is doing an OK job. In fact, I think the CBS pre-game has much improved, with more of the natural-seeming camaraderie between the announcers than before.

Go Steelers!

I misheard - apparently it is Hampton, not Mcfaden that is out.

Am I the only watching?

It was a great game! Ben did well, although his line still needs work, IMO. Our running took a while to get moving, but it did well too.

4-1 going into the bye week! Hooray!

That game was an unmitigated disaster for the Seahawks. No Ward, no Holmes, no Hampton, and no Polamalu, and they still looked like a bunch of confused children. Holmgren has no bitch about the refs today, either. All the calls went Seattle’s way.

Great way to enter the bye week. 4-1, in command of the division- how can you beat that?
