The First Annual Steelers Defend The Lombardi Trophy Thread

I cannot (more to the point, will not) root for any other team, but if I were a gambling man I would put money on the Chargers, with Peyton (not the Colts per se) getting a sentimental vote because the guy deserves to win one, and since this year it won’t come at the Steelers’ expense I wouldn’t mind seeing it.

As a coda to this season, word is out that Bill Cowher will resign tomorrow. :frowning: That means that the Steelers will have only the third head coach in 37 years. Whoever they pick, I hope he’s willing to stay as long as the other two. The last thing we need is a revolving door-type situation like what happened with the Cowboys after Landry was unceremoniously dumped. The Rooneys have been and will be loyal to their coaches, and a long stretch will continue the stability that us Steeler fans have grown to love.

It’s a sad day. I can’t fathom rooting against Cowher if he goes somewhere else. I just can’t.

I’m happy to see Cowher go, and I offer him a slew of bad words for coasting through this season with his mind on things other than the game. We had a shot at a dynasty, putting Pittsburgh back where it belongs in the NFL. Perhaps we still do.

I’ve wanted Cowher to go for a while now. I don’t think that any coach has achieved less with the type of talent that the Steelers have consistently provided him. His winning percentage is great, and I appreciate the intensity that he initially brought to Pittsburgh. But prior to last year, his post-season record was 8 and 9. Too many times did we dominate in the regular season, only to blow it in the playoffs.

So, thanks Mr. Cowher, for what you did bring to the team. I wish you had given us a better opportunity to return to the Super Bowl this year. Good luck wherever you end up. In the future, when the Steelers face anyone in the post-season, I hope it’s you.

I too am sad to see him go. I am hoping to see him replaced by Whissenhunt. If he does go to another team I am not sure how I’ll feel, but I suspect that I will root against him.

Congratulations Steelers fans. Romeo Crennel has been inexplicably retained. You get 2 free wins next year, even if you suck.

I don’t see any NFL threads being bumped, so I figure that this is as good a place as any to congratulate the Colts for out Baltimore-ing the Ratbirds. After all the posturing, all the smack talking that Weirddave and I have been engaging in all year long, the only difference between the two teams is that Pittsburgh got to reserve better tee times and they get a better draft pick. So much for the vaunted defense. It’s a damn shame when the better defense on the field is the Colts.

The same damn thing year after year. I can’t believe it. Dropped passes, fourth-quarter meltdowns, ridiculous penalties…is it 2000 again?

I think the delay in Pittsburgh means they are looking at someone who is still in the playoffs…so maybe Rivera, from Chicago. I would be ok with that. I would rather have a defensively oriented HC. If we go offense, I would rather see them bring in Cam Cameron for an interview than take Gailey or Grimm.
Now that Whiz is gone(who can blame him, with the offense they have going in Az), how bout
