The First Annual Steelers Defend The Lombardi Trophy Thread

Godamnit

…or maybe he did get it in on time. Yeah, he got jobbed, but shit happens.

And in other news, Polamalu with the pick! Yes!

He did too throw it before the kick. They’ve showed it twice. Come on, Airman, if the Steelers had been screwed like that, you’d be having a coronary.

I don’t think it would have mattered much, the Steelers would have punched it in on the next play, but still…make them go through the motions.

No, I agree with you. Madden and Michaels led me to believe that he got it in late before the break. I fessed up already that it was a bad call, and I agree with you in regards to the officiating.

Saban did kind of half-ass that attempt. He could have tried a little harder, that’s for sure.

Hahahahaha

I’d have slow-pitch softballed it in there over the ref’s head.

Either that, or taken off in a dead sprint and thrown it at his feet from in front of him.

Most important defensive drive for us right now.

What the hell kind of kick was that? My 89 year old grandmother could have missed it by that much. Hell, I could have gotten it closer than that. Where’s my contract?

Jesus, it’s just the first week. My heart won’t hold up all year if this keeps up.

Thank you, Joey Porter. I can relax now.

Back To Back!!!

Yeah, that’s the Daunte Culpepper we had in Minnesota for all those years. The more things change, teh more they stay the same.

Oh well, looks like I’mma have to wait till Sunday to celebrate.

Go Cowboys!

Hot damn. Airman, now we get a nice 11 day break from football stress!

Wooohooo!!!

Bob O’Connor couldn’t have asked for a better send off! You just know he’s up there with Art Sr., waving his Terrible Towel!

OK, Pittsburgh is going to knee it out, so I guess we can talk about what went right and what went wrong.

What went right:

  • Willie Parker had a very solid game. He got yardage on some big plays when he needed it.

  • The defense bent, but it didn’t break. It stiffened big time at the end with the two picks, although they were from people you might expect to make big plays. Bryant McFadden hits like a truck and made some good plays, but other than Polamalu and Ike Taylor the secondary got torched big a few times.

  • They took Miami’s heart. Miami folded like a collapsible chair at the end after playing so tough for the first 50 minutes.

  • Charlie Batch played very well for a guy that hasn’t seen a whole lot of time since 2001. I guess all the preseason time paid off.

What went wrong:

  • Santonio Holmes’ amateur hour mistake on the punt early on. What was he thinking? I’d write it up as a rookie mistake, but it’s not as though they don’t teach that at every level or anything.

  • Fumbleitis is alive and well. It was eerily reminiscent of when Bettis coughed it up against the Colts in the playoffs last year. Hold on to the ball, for Christ’s sake.

  • The secondary, as I said above. Too many big gains.

  • What kind of kick coverage was that in the first half? The special teams made Wes Welker look like a hero early on.

All things considered, it was a good game. And, of course, any game you can walk away from with a win is a good game, especially when your starting quarterback is sidelined with appendicitis.

Needless to say, I’m happy. That’s one down, 15 to go on the way back to the playoffs and ultimate destiny.

Funniest line of the night:

“That pass almost picked off by Will Allen.”

BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Get used to that sentence, Miami fans.

I caught only a few bits of the game. Why wasn’t the field painted with Steelers logos?

I was hoping he could throw his other red flag to challenge the timing on the first red flag. It would’ve amused me.

Are they still going to yank Willie Parker in goal line situations? For Haynes?

I picked that little yinzer bastard on my fantasy league figuring he was going to get a bigger share of the TDs.

I missed the forth quarter. Over-all I thought they played OK. But we had way more mistakes than we should have. Officiating was bad and that should put paid to the whiners who claimed early on that the officials are pro-pittsburg.

In the end, we won, so I’m pleased.
