The Flim Flam Man

I missed that last few minutes of the movie yesterday.
What happens after Jones drives off in the Sherriff’s car?
Thanks

Care to elaborate a little???

The kid is holding the sherriff & deputy off with presumably fake dynamite. They let Jones loose, the kid gives him the car keys, he is to call a phone booth when he is safe, and the Wife needs something from her car.
I come back and the AMC guy is talking.
What happened?

Jones (George Scott) is to call a local pay phone when he’s well out of town in Bonnie’s car. Sarazin is holding the town hostage until it happens. A few hours later, the pay phone rings. The sheriff (Harry Morgan) believes that Morticai Jones couldn’t get away as the state police have been notified and the town is surrounded. After the kid surrenders, we pan to Jones who is really just around the corner and not out of town at all. The final scene is Jones catching a freight train out of town.

Great flick

Thank you, thank you!
Er, was the dynamite fake?

Yep, and Bonnie’s dad is proud of both of them.

An underrated, and great film.

I love the line where the kid goes ahead and pushes the plunger to the dynamite (after he gets the phone call from Mordecai signaling that he’s OK.) The sherrif and whole town flinch in horror. The kid yells “There ain’t no dynamite!” with a triumphant grin as they drag him away.
