OK, so it didn’t happen like that. But it was lots of fun. Michelle and I met outside the Ruby Tuesday’s at University Mall in Tampa at about 2:00. After meeting her, my dad went off to do Christmas shopping, and Michelle and I went inside to have lunch. It was a short and small meeting, lasting only until 3:30, but we did talk about a lot of people. Here’s the list (may be incomplete):

I told you it was short. Michelle may remember more than I do.
Michelle ordered the salad bar (not the whole thing, just one plate), and I had a grilled chicken caesar. And since we were in the mall, I even got some shopping done - I bought a candle for one of my sisters for Christmas.
Sanibel politely left out the part of our conversation where I lectured him to be careful about his choices for his future (college and career). We also talked about getting a better Florida turn out and other SDMB people we would like to meet. Sanibel is a nice guy and I enjoyed meeting him.

If more of you turn up next time, then you can collectively take on the duty of getting the lad drunk. It’s the least you can do, to improve his “purity”.
That’s because he listens to his parents music. The other night in the chat room, our wee little lad recognised a song by “Toad the Wet Sprocket” AND was able to explain the band name.
Sorry I couldn’t make it, its been hectic. Besides, it wouldn’t haven’t been very practical for me to drive up to Tampa for lunch.
So how many Floridian dopers are there anyway? If we did have an official get-together, how many would attend? Knowing this would be the first step to deciding when and where.
I still like the Peace River idea, but maybe thats because I was considering going soon anyway. Any other ideas?
V, Sanibel has been trying for a long time to get a Florida get together going. Before he started trying, I tried. There were at least 2 or 3 threads about Florida meetings. Hardly anyone had a positive response. Sanibel drove for a couple of hours to have lunch with me, and then headed right back home afterwards.
