Well, it only takes two dopers, right? Well, GolfWidow and I had lunch today. It was great. She’s just as nice and just as fun as you all think she is, and guys, if she isn’t on your crush list, she ought to be–she’s much better looking than her picture. I really wish I could meet more of you IRL, but GolfWidow was a great person to start with. Oh, yeah, and she tried valiantly to pick up the check again, but I fought her for it and won!!! I asked her if she thought she had to feed all the dopers and she said yeah, she’d fed 3 and had about 8000 to go!
GolfWidow–I was bad…when we parted, I went to SteinMart and SHOPPED! Got about 4 really nice blouses and 2 cardigans for $99 with no sales tax! (Non Florida Dopers–explanation: Florida has one week a year with no sales tax on clothing items, shoes, backpacks, etc. to help the parents out with back-to-school shopping.)
Glad that you two had a good time, but we actually had a smaller dopefest here in Tallahassee.
I’d posted a call for all Tallahasse dopers and got zero replies. A couple of days later chrisbar mentioned to me that we were in the same town so I replied back telling her we should arrange a “doper’s lunch”.
She thought her husband would object so I went and had lunch without her. AND I picked up the check!
Hey GolfWidow, my Dad lives down that way. He is a widower IRL. Can you send me your schedule so that I’ll know when you’re unencumbered by your golfer’s companionship? I’m starting a second career as a pimp. ;)

Don’t let him fool you, TroubleAgain. We never even discussed having lunch seriously. To be honest right now I don’t even have a lunch hour. I don’t see the light of day for 10 hours at a time on my current work schedule. Thank goodness I can go back to normal work hours September 1st.
Maybe we should have a mini-Doper fest sometime soon after.

SouthernStyle, mmm, could be, but I-4 makes the trip not-too-horribly-bad…but you’re right, if I were her, and my wedding were this close…no way I’d be worrying about a Dopefest.
TroubleAgain - I had a really good time. (and thanks for saying such nice things about me on the board; I owe you that $100 bill next time I see you).
For everyone else: TroubleAgain is very outgoing and very amusing; I was entertained throughout my lunch. We couldn’t shut up and spent most of the hour talking with our mouth’s full (good thing my mother wasn’t there, I would have been slapped), which we both apologized to the other for. She brought her camera but we forgot to have our waitress take a picture, but we will remember next time.
I must have some kind of subliminal shopping beams emitting from my forehead or something. I don’t think Michi had planned on buying some new pants while at our doper lunch yesterday, but . . .
SouthernStyle - As much as I appreciate the offer of being pimped out to your dad, I’ll have to check with Mr. Golf first. He normally doesn’t allow me to date other men but I guess if the money were good, he’d probably be up for it.
Maybe all Florida Dopers (and I guess we could invite non-Florida Dopers as well) could get together sometime in a central location like Orlando (it doesn’t hurt that I have an apartment there) and go to Disney or something.
School starts for me the 23rd retch, so after that Saturday is really the only day I could make a meeting (Sunday with enough advance notice). Of course, I have breaks and days off and such, but now that Dad’s retired and will be home all the time I don’t think I could skip to drive up and make a meeting. Sorry.
Well GolfWidow, to be honest (even if this is MPSIMS) my Dad is too old for you. But since he IS my Dad, I do my best to look out for him. (Wait a sec… Since Dad’s about a generation older than you, that would make us about the same age – When your husband gets a “complementary golf membership” to the local club from an anonymous donor, I’m the anonymous donor. ;))
chrisbar is really a sweetie, though her excuse is suspect. With the weather we’ve had around here lately the odds are pretty good that one won’t see the light of day no matter what time they venture outside. BTW, I’d never be able to attend a mini-Doper fest – I’d fail the “mini” part. But we could do a Doper mini-fest.

You see [sfx: violin-music.wav], when my beloved and I got married in April, we just had a little tiny freebie-type honeymoon at a borrowed beach house, because we were planning to save our money for a trip to Disney World in December when the crowds thinned out a little. An it didn’t matter that it rained the whole time we were at the beach, 'cuz we were together…and it was free…and anyway, we were going to Disney World!
But then we got home all this stuff broke, like the car and the well and the dryer and the motorcycle…and we spent so much money fixing everything [sfx:full-string-section.wav] that we sadly decided we would have to put off the Disney trip till some other year.
But if we could come stay in your apartment, and maybe if all the other FL dopers would sponsor us, and if somebody up here would be kind enough to look in on the cats while we’re gone (preferably someone who can fix the plumbing while they’re at it), then maybe…just maybe…we could have our honeymoon after all.
'Course, I’m such a newbie you have no way of knowing whether I might be, for example, an axe murderer or something, but I’ve been lurking so much lately I feel like you all know me.

Yup, I think another mini-dopefest is in order…but it’ll take some work to figure out the schedule for that! Anyone have any ideas for a time when SanibelMan is not in school and Michi and I aren’t working the weekend? Oh, yeah, and gotta make time for chrisbar and Bear_nenno and SouthernStyle to drive in…Orlando sounds like a good place to me…
Let me know if you come up with anything, I’d love to get togethr with ya’ll. Bear Nenno lives about 2 minutes away from me. Orlando does sound like a lot of fun but it might be tricky getting a time that is good for all of us (school/stupid work schedules).
Yippee! I’m invited! Orlando is not a bad drive at all. We should go to Islands of Adventure! It is pretty much the greatest theme park of all time!
Since it is so touristy there anyway. Maybe we can get a whole bunch of dopers to come. Like the Vegas meeting. We can tell the front gate that we are with the Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization and they will give us special tags so that we do not have to wait in line. (not that I have ever done that). But come one, those lines can be over an hour sometimes!!
Seriously, they never ask to see a kid. Some people I know (because I never do) have brought their dates. Two 20somethings get VIP passes. No kids needed. I guess they are just trusting over at the Guest Services Window.
