The Florida insiders get face-planted

Hahahaha!

Most of the sources for that wikipedia account are New York Times articles, which I don’t like to link to because of the paywall.

The first head-to-head poll is out, and it’s weird. Yes, Gillum might really be 3 points ahead, but with nearly zero undecided and nearly zero of respondents saying they won’t consider changing their minds? When does that ever happen?

Two polls now show Gillum with a 2-3 point lead. Predictit still gives DeSantis a decent edge though, 57% to 46%.

I think Gillum is a genuinely super-talented campaigner, based on what I’ve seen. Too early to say if he’s as good as Obama or Bill Clinton, but he’s as good or better than any ~40 year old pol I can recall in the last decade or two.

The baby looks about as interested on whatever his papa is reading as a bag of concrete on the inner workings of electrical lightbulbs.

Ehhhh, he’s a talent, no question, but he’s not at Obama or Clinton’s level yet. Hard to compare him to anyone else though as we haven’t seen many “pretty charismatic but not legendary charismatic” Presidential candidates. Seems like they’ve all been super charismatic or super zzzzzz the past 50 years. I guess Carter had decent charisma but I don’t want to compare Gilllum to Carter until he’s “earned” that kind of backhanded compliment.

Gillum gets bonus points with me for knowing what he’s good at. He’s an executive running for the next best logical executive position and if he succeeds he’ll run for the next logical executive position(the Presidency). Going to the Senate to run for President is for losers who can’t manage anything. Real men prove their chops as governors.

DeSantis just can’t keep clear of his racist base.

Trump is mad at Desantis.
From a Politico article that I can’t seem to link.

“The president has told close associates in recent days that he views DeSantis — who won his Aug. 28 GOP primary thanks to Trump’s strong support — as profoundly disloyal for distancing himself from the president’s assertion that the Hurricane Maria death toll was inflated by Democrats for political purposes.”

DeSantis’ latest ads do not mention Trump at all, in comparison to his primary ads that were nothing but.

Speaking of DeSantis’ new ads, he ends with “From Dunedin to Tallahassee, I’ll work for Florida”.

What, you plan to be Governor of just the northwest coastal region? How about “Homestead to Pensacola” instead, Ron? Look at a map.

The funny thing is that politicians know that local politics sometimes means running away from national politics. But unindicted co-conspirator Donald John Trump, who is as incompetent in politics as everywhere else, will take it as a personal affront. He’s planting the seeds of his own destruction yet again. (It’s unfortunate he’s planting the seeds of our destruction, too.)

It’s not remotely new. Here’s an article talking about the term in the 2008 election. And lest you think it’s 10 years old, those in the article indicate it’s been going on for a long time.

You just don’t usually call white politicians articulate. It’s kinda a given that anyone who gets on the public stage will be able to articulate their ideas. You might call people inarticulate, but that’s because they violate the norm.

And, when he ran a robocall campaign with a parody of AAVE and tons of racist language, do you really think that DeSantis doesn’t mean exactly what “articulate” usually means?

The guy is being deliberately racist.

It’s been a long time since I lived in Florida, but From Dunedin to Tallahassee reminds me of small towns and speeding tickets.
