"The Forgotten" - horror/urban fantasy novel

Spurred by iiandyiiii’s success, I invite you to check out my horror/urban fantasy novel (no vampires!), “The Forgotten.” Here’s the blurb from the back cover:

*Jason Thayer always thought of himself as a pretty normal guy, all things considered. Yeah, there was the thing about his crazy sister, but she’s safely taken care of, far away from him. Lots of people are crazy these days. Seems to be going around. But she’s in good hands, and that’s all that matters to Jason.

Until she goes missing.

When Jason heads to the Bay Area to help search for her (how hard could it be to find one unhinged 17-year-old girl, anyway?), he has no idea that he and Normal are about to be parting company in a big and permanent way. From the moment a strange bum at a rest stop warns him to beware of odd symbols, Jason’s search for his sister leads him down a rabbithole of weirdness, dark magic, and deadly danger.

What do you do when you discover an extradimensional conspiracy that threatens the safety of the world, but the only people who believe you are even crazier than your sister?*

It’s 470 pages and available for $2.99 in ebook form and $13.99 in paperback. If you like it, I’ve already got the second book in the trilogy (561 pages) finished and currently in editing.

This is my first original novel, though I’ve written five complete web novels set in the Shadowrun game universe and I’ve done quite a bit of freelance work in various Shadowrun sourcebooks including the standalone adventure “On the Run” which was subsequently included as part of the Origins Award-winning “Runners’ Toolkit” box set. I’ll also have fiction in the upcoming Shadowrun 5 core rulebook, and in the “Shadowrun Returns” game anthology (I’m still kind of pinching myself over this, since I’ll be in the company of ‘real’ authors like Mike Stackpole).

Anyway, if you think the book looks like something you might like, check it out! I’m really kind of terrible at marketing myself, so reviews are highly appreciated to help me get the word out!

The website for the series is http://www.areyouforgotten.net .

That sounds very intriguing, at least enough for me to spring for the ebook!

Thanks, chorpler! I hope you enjoy it!

Sounds fascinating–I’ll have to give it a try! My daughter is also intrigued!

Cool, thanks to both of you! I’m dying to find out what people think of it.

Just bought the ebook from amazon.

Thanks much!

I don’t have a kindle so I bought the paperback (I like the smell of books anyway). Apparently I had a $5 Amazon credit I didn’t know about so even with the shipping, it cost me $1 less than the book is listed for!
Looking forward to reading it!

Oh and I totally judged by the cover. I love the cover.

Awesome! I’m glad to hear you love the cover, too. The artist is a friend of mine and I commissioned it specially–I was really happy with how it turned out.

I got my book!!!

Woot! I hope you enjoy it!

If you do, I would love you forever* if you’d leave me a review on Amazon.

  • Well…at least until next Tuesday.**
** Well, at least until tomorrow. But I’ll like you forever!

I absolutely will be leaving a great review! The only reason I haven’t finished it yet is because I had to work today. I’m on page 317 and thoroughly enjoying myself. When are you gonna finish book 2??

Ooh, so glad you’re enjoying it!

Book 2 is finished, actually! I’m reviewing final cover art/fonts with the artist and putting the finishing touches on the editing–I’m hoping to have it out there in a month or so, depending on how long it takes for the cover (the artist is busy with a lot of projects so she works me in when she can).

Just finished.

Seriously awesome book! I loved it. The whole thing was great and the ending was satisfying. You created beautiful relationships between the characters along with completely plausible interactions (considering the circumstances).
I can’t wait for the sequel and I really hope there will be more than one!
I posted a link to the Amazon listing on facebook. Many of my friends and family like the same kinds of entertainment I like.

Thank you for the kind words, and for posting the link. I’m happy for any word-of-mouth recommendations I can get.

This series is planned as a trilogy–I’m working on the third one, though I’m not very far along yet. And since I love the characters, I expect there will be more (probably one-shots) after that.

For anyone who’s read The Forgotten (or who thinks they might like to), I’ve posted the Prologue to Book 2 in the trilogy, *The Threshold *. There aren’t any spoilers for Book 1 in it–it is a little gory, though, so be warned.

Threshold Prologue

The Threshold will be available soon!
