The Galaxy Quest appreciation thread [spoilers]

I’ll have to see the movie again, but I thought that his character was seen carrying around a baggie at one point.

DeMarco: “Historical documents?” Surely you don’t think Gilligan’s Island is a…
Thermian: THOSE POOR PEOPLE!

IIRC, he’s shown casually snacking on what’s in the baggie.

The Green Mile is is what I was going mention. You’d never guess the same actor plays such different characters.

Love this movie. One of my favorite scenes is when young Laredo is taking the ship out of dock, and everyone is leaning to one side trying to steer through sheer force of will.

Also, “Hey guys, there’s a red thingy moving toward the green thingy. I think we’re the green thingy!”

I love that on the DVD, you have the option of changing audio tracks and seeing the whole movie dubbed into Thermian. It’s really surreal.

Brandon’s Mother: “Where are you going with those fireworks?”
Brandon: “Well, the Protector got super-accelerated coming out of the black hole, and it, like, nailed the atmosphere at Mach 15, which, you guys know, is pretty unstable, obviously, so we’re gonna help Laredo guide it on the vox ultra-frequency carrier and use Roman candles for visual confirmation.”
Brandon’s Mother: “Uh, all right, dinner’s at seven.”

Brandon’s Mother (to Brandon’s Dad) : “Well, he’s outside.”

That reminds me of a quote that hasn’t been mentioned:

Sir Alexander Dane: You’re just going to have to figure out what it wants. What is its motivation?
Jason Nesmith: It’s a rock monster! It doesn’t have motivation!
Sir Alexander Dane: See, that’s your problem, Jason. You were never serious about the craft.

This! Having taught my three kids to drive, I have often leaned to try to bank the car around a turn when a novice driver was taking it a smidge wide. I’m sure Jason was stomping on his own “brake pedal” too.

This episode was poorly written!

I’ve always thought that the first draft of this script had to be with Shatner and Nimoy and later changed.

“Our last commander was not… strong.”

It is hard to add to the gushfest for this movie, but I do love it too. Perfect on so many levels - from casting Tim Allen in the Shatneresque (did I spell that right?) role to the writing. It is a movie that the majority of people will not object to watching.

I also missed the Sam Rockwell love-in. He is great and makes any movie he is in worth watching- Iron Man 2 not withstanding. Plus, in addition to Sam Rockwell, you have Tony Shalhoub. Either one make the movie they’re in worth watching- again Iron Man 2 not withstanding.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your post. But Tony Shalhoub wasn’t in Iron Man 2.

[“Guy, you have a last name.”

“Do I?!?! Do I?!?!”](Galaxy Quest- Guy - YouTube)

One of the best comedic line deliveries I’ve seen. Great editing, too.

MINERS, not MINORS.
You lost me.

I’m just jazzed about being on the show, man.

Never Give Up, Never Surrender!

(can’t believe that hasn’t been said by now - can’t believe I forgot it in my first post either!)

You seem to be - I read Ike as saying that Rockwell is good in everything except IM2. In addition to rockwell in galaxy quest, you have shalhoub.

Then again, perhaps I’m wrong.

Goblin Valley State Park is a real place.

The way he wrote it is pretty ambiguous. I was thinking maybe he had Jon Favreau and Tony Shalhoub confused.

I’m posting from a gaming store so can’t link, but the wiki page for GQ includes quotes from various ST actors including, IIRC, Will Wheaton saying he would’ve liked to’ve been the rapid fan yelling at the screen about how stupid it is to have a kid on the bridge. I’m in favor of this.

Also, I think **Tasha Yar **could’ve played Brandon’s mom.
