Nah. Valkyries are supposed to be good looking.
All kidding aside, I’d like to add that James Kirk’s superior officer José Mendez was played by – Malachi Throne, a nice Jewish chap of Eastern European extraction.
Anyone commanding a crew with compression phaser rifles is attractive.
I never really noticed this before, but now that you mention it, I think he only did the squinting bit in the scenes from the original show. Maybe it’s a nod to Ricardo Montalban being cast as Kahn? This is really a stretch, but as I ponder it, I remember Montalban being cast as a Japanese in an episode of Hawaii 5-O.
There is a little theater where I live that shows it occasionally on a “sort of” big screen…I always keep an eye out for when it might be playing so I can play hooky from work and spend the day watching it.
Strange. I am a huge Trekkie, but I don;t care for Galaxy Quest much at all. I have no problem with poking fun at Star Trek, I love the Futurama Star Trek episode. But this movie just dosn;t do it for me. But my dad actually had me get it for him a few weeks ago, so maybe I will give it another try.
My Evil Ex, who would kill you where you stand for using “Trekkie”, the World’s Most Avid Treker, declared upon leaving the theater, “That movie was made with love.”
One of my favorite quotes is when, after realizing that the Thermians have no concept of fiction Sarris tells Nesmith, “He does not understand. Explain it as you would a child.”
Several times a week when one of our clients is failing to grasp a simple concept like “You need to be at the device before I can help you fix it” this quote (and delivery) rolls through my mind.
Let’s hit it with a rock…and eat it.
“Let get out of here before one of those things kills Guy!”
Jason Nesmith: Okay Gwen, put me back on with him.
Gwen DeMarco: That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you, Jason. You ARE back with him.
Sarris: Perhaps I am not as stupid as I am ugly, commander!
Jason Nesmith: [to Gwen] I gave you the ‘kill’ gesture.
Gwen DeMarco: No, you gave me the ‘we’re dead’ signal. I was agreeing with you. Like I know where the ‘hold’ button is.
This thread inspired me to watch it again last night. Thanks.
I watched it last night too. Still just as funny!
I’m watching it on Youtube right now. Hilarious. And I agree, Sam Rockwell steals the show.
I approve of this silly movie.
Yes. Yes you did.
And it’s a kick in the chest just remembering that.
Poor, poor Thermian leader.
I know I’m late but I have to chip in, I love this film.
Give him a big hand… he’s British!
Sigourney Weaver’s reaction on running into the chompers…
Fuck that!
I know they’ve dubbed over with “screw that” but you can see what she actually says. There are little touches throughout, like the way they sell the leathality of the chompers when Nesmith drops his phase pistol thingy and it’s smashed cartoonishly flat.
I’m re-watching the Original Series and laughed when Kirk gave the same motion to Uhura in an identical situation. I thought the Galaxy Quest joke was just part of the script, and not also an homage. What a great movie.
“Oh, I know. I’ll make a noise like this Ca-Caw!”
“What are you, an infant? We have these!”
“Well…uh…right. Sorry.”
and then when the aliens are attacking, he’s running towards Jason screaming “caw! caw!” into his communicator.
