Well, actually it seems to be more wrong than right, but better than chance. It uses an algorithm to guess what gender a person is from a block of text. It worked both times I put text in. Next I’ll try this post so far. Got it right again! Weird, eh?
Of course, I just put in Polycarp’s OP from the “Gay Sex and the Bible” thread and it told me that was female too. Mebbe it always says female or something. . .
Three passages from my webpage, two excerpts from stories I’m writing, and five recents posts by me. That’s 10 writing samples. Results: 7 female, 3 male.
Incidentally, chance would be right and wrong equally. So if it’s more wrong than right, it can’t be better than chance.

It says 80% but it’s under 50% right now.
I typed in “I have a penis”, and it correctly guessed that I’m male. But it did the same for “I have a uterus”, so there’s more to it than just keywords.
Course, the preceding paragraph caused it to guess female…
In the interest of dispelling myth (isn’t that what Straight Dope is all about?) I typed in “I sure would like to fuck some hot chick tonight!” (Excuse my French…)

It (correctly) guessed that I’m female three times out of five.
Ya know… if it said female EVERY time, it would be right 51% of the time… 
I threw in my last report, and it says that I’m male. Woohoo!

This is another guess my gender geared site,. (It’s a four-page quiz from www.thespark.com). It also seems to pick female every time. With my family it got 2 out of 3; it said that my father was a woman…with 80% certainty! :eek:

Great minds think alike! Purely for the interests of research, I typed in “I want to get my dick wet with some busty bombshell” and it came up female. Guess one of those rocket scientists need to put in some code like:

THEN gender=male

I put in my favorite paragraph from my diss prospectus and it thought I was a boy (I’m not). Alas!
I tried out about 10 various pieces of writing and it guessed I was female every time (which is correct.)
Ok, I put in 5 paragraphs independently, and it only identified one as being written by a female.
What does this MEAN?
I need my tinfoil feminism hat. . is this why I got a decent fellowship from the anonymous writing sample?
