What gender are you? Ask the Gender Genie to analyze your posts!

griffen2 gets the credit for linking to the Gender Genie in this thread.

Out of curiosity I plugged some of my posts into the Gender Genie. Of about seven posts and one paragraph from a research paper I’ve scored mostly male. I’m entirely female. I’m wndering why my writing style seems typically male. Maybe it has something to do with being a lawyer (?).

What gender are your posts?

I’ve tried 3 so far. All three say I am male. Good to know.

Three out of four says I’m female. ponders

Roll over, hubby, we’re trying something new tonight!

What? I have to be sure!

I keep posting my fiction, in blocks of more than 2500 words, and each time it’s almost fifty-fifty – half the time just barely male, and half the time barely female.

Okay, I’ve done three of my longer posts and two of my longer pieces of random writing. The gender genie says I’m male. Five times I tried. Five times it said I was male.

Mr. Kangaroo is going to be so upset!

Pasted several posts into it for about 1000 words or so…

Swing and a miss, folks.

Apparently it’s my use of the word “the” that’s throwing off the algorithm. :dubious:

I ran about eight posts, and it was wrong about all but one of them.

From your score, it appears that the Genie thinks you swing both ways.

On the posts I put in it found me to be male every time.

Well, are you?

It guessed correctly for me 5 out of 6 times. The wrong guess was for a blog entry, and that was fairly short.

I submitted some of my SDMB posts, and 3 out of 4 were correctly identified.

4 of 5 of my fiction samples were correctly identified…except that “she”, “her” and “hers” are classified as “feminine” words. When I took the last sample and changed the female characters to males, I got classed as male.

So…I experimented. A passage from Terry Pratchett’s Men at Arms that consisted of a scene with Angua of the Watch…female. A passage from Michelle West’s The Sun Sword that focuses on a male character…male.

Read my past posts and you tell me.

:dubious:

Swing and a mister, you mean.

Neato…I plugged in one post, three longish school papers and three blog entries. I was solidly male for all of them.

Apparently the Gender Genie can’t decide on my gender. :dubious:

Copying and pasting a few of my posts into one test: female.
Copy/pasting a school paper, male.

I put in a school paper and this was what it came up with:

sighs

I gave it 3 pieces of fiction I wrote, it was wrong on two of 'em.
