It determined that I was female. WRONG!!! OTOH, I only gave it a short sample, just a paragraph to decribe myself in general. When I get home I will copy a passage from one of the stories I have written and see how it does with that.
Apparently, the first two stanzas of E.A. Poe’s The Raven were written by him, but the next two were written by a woman.
I put chunks of assorted writings I happen to have handy into it, and, generally, it regarded fairly “heavy” stuff (book reviews, and a piece of parody written in the style of the Book of Jeremiah) as “male”, while personal communications, in relatively informal language, came out as “female”. Obviously, women write more frivolously and flippantly, and can’t concentrate on the hard stuff.
(It thinks that was written by a woman. Which, by the way, I’m not.)
Perhaps the genie gets it wrong more than 50% of the time because people intentionally give it difficult passages? Then again, it could be just a POS
Now, I wonder what it would say about a theme album I’m writing, where the songs are told from a female perspective, but written of course by myself, a male? I’ll try when I get home.
It guessed correctly (using excerpts of e-mails I sent) 5 times!!
All female here.
It thought I was male 3 out of 5 times.
Color me unimpressed.
It pegged me as female five out of six times. I’m a boy.
Sorry. I appear to have been an idiot yesterday.
Anyway, it seems to be a load of hooey, unsurprisingly.
I used some of my short stories.
In Distress = female.
World Enough and Time = male.
Crime Against Nature = male.
The First International Dictionary of the English Language = female.
Inde(con)structible = male
The Muse of Memory = male
Genesis = male
Show and Tell = female
Le Cri de coeur = female
Grand total: 4 female, 5 male.
Interestingly, the four that were identified as female are the ones that are completely autobiographical.
Hmm… I’ll try this for fun and distraction.
most recent blog entry: female
the last MSN buzz I sent my friend Corey: female
an email I sent my friend John: female
most recent LJ entry: female
the post I wrote for another message board past midnight: female
an IM conversation I was having with my friend Dawn: female (yup, that maes sense!)
End results: 6 of 6 female.
Okay, at least it doesn’t think I’m a boy!
Just for fun, I decided to try some entries in Spoz’s blog:
Entry 1: female
Entry 2: female
Entry 3: female
Entry 4: female
Entry 5: male
Entry 6: male
Hmm… only 2 of 6 right. Somehow, I don’t think he’s going to be too happy when I tell him about this later.
I think I’ll go off and do other things now… and NOT introduce this site to another board. (unless it’s for the sheer idiocy of it all)

I used 3 pieces of creative writing and one history paper. The stories all came out female, the paper, male, leading to a 75% success rate.
