The Gift of Life in the MMP

Mornin’ everyone.

It’s 54F and cloudy outside. The day is expected to remain cloudy, with a daytime high of 66F.

Oopsie, I’m so sorry to read about your friend. That is indeed shocking news, and I hope there is good news about treatment options.

FCM and BooFae, I would LOVE to hire tradespeople for the painting. But hiring out painting, both indoors and outdoors, is very spendy in these parts. I am not sure what my husband intends to do about the entryway and staircase area, since it is two stories and he’s not a fan of heights. As for calling tradespeople, it’s always me who makes the calls and arrangements. I wish he’d do it, just once.

We didn’t go to the store yesterday, but we are going today. He’s pretty insistent this will be done. I would normally be all on board, but trying to do this three weeks before the kids arrive is ludicrous. And, I still need to clean the carpets before they arrive, too.

He also wants a new desk or desks for the study, new shower heads for the bathrooms, and Og knows what else. Maybe he’ll wake up a little when he sees that a five-gallon bucket of paint is 350 bucks or more (depending on the brand). Gallon buckets of premium paint run close to 50 bucks or more. Ah well, it all costs money, doesn’t it?

He doesn’t want white paint; he wants colors. I am sick of colors, although I wouldn’t mind being a little dramatic in the powder room, with maybe wainscoting on the lower half, cool wallpaper on the rest of the wall, and replacing the pedestal sink with a vanity cupboard and sink. That room is small and easy to experiment with.

As for the upstairs bathrooms (both the guest and primary suite bathrooms), I would prefer to stick as close to white as possible. Maybe a linen-type color. I dunno, I guess we’ll see today. The guest bath doesn’t have windows, so I don’t want anything to darken it. The primary suite bathroom has plenty of daylight (two windows), but again, I just don’t want to darken it.

We’ll probably go with a calming green for the bedrooms, and a more neutral tone for the hallways and living areas of the house. This helps keep things simple, too. I don’t know about all of you, but I tend to almost stress out when I see a house that changes color every few feet. It’s just too much for me. Especially if it’s a more open-concept space. I know people use color to define space, but to me, it’s chaotic.

VanGo, I’m glad your important rectangles are safe.

Mollie, yay for the next step!

I saw robins losing their ever-lovin’ minds yesterday. There was lots of chirping and flying back and forth through the trees and back to the apple tree behind my yard. It went on for quite some time, and I couldn’t figure out what was going on. I thought at first that maybe a hawk was nearby. Finally, I saw a crow erupt from the apple tree. I think the crow killed baby birds or ate eggs. I know there was a nest in there because I saw robins constantly flying in and out that tree. It’s sad, but nature is cruel.

Also, a BIG bun has been visiting my yard the last few days. Yesterday, he (she?) was hopping around in my big raised planters.

Alrighty, I guess I’d best shower and get ready to pick out paint colors and supplies.

Please take care of yourselves.

In the theme of the thread, maybe you can arrange a hormone donation?

The weather has turned all wet, which I am not complaining about at all. Saves me watering, and it’s pleasantly cool. Am attempting to irk from home, but I need a break (by switching from one screen to another slightly different screen). I would go play outside for 5 minutes (and why don’t jobs have playtime breaks, huh?) but it’s just started chucking it down.

As 5-y/o Scott used to call it (back when I was his babysitter) - The Six Dollar Man!!

I’ve still got original issue, minus wisdom teeth, gallbladder, appendix, baby-making parts, and a bit of intestine. And having said that, something surely will fail in a day or two.

FWIW - I can’t be bothered to read - I look at avatars! But yay anyway!!

We had a couple of guys paint the entire inside about 7 years ago or so. Frankly, they did an unimpressive job for all it cost. Oh it looked nice for the first year or so, but now I’m seeing places where the paint has come off, including one spot where I washed a spot off the wall. I’m a better painter, plus I suspect they used shitty builder-grade paint. I may be slow, but I do a better job.

Taking a short break before I start moving gravel. I transplanted some lily-of-the-valley and liriope, then mulched the last little bit of the back garden bed. Then I mulched the iris and lilies that I moved the other day. They’re being watered at the moment, but I’ll be turning the hose off shortly. While FCD was getting the gravel, I filled in half a dozen Otis holes - small ones, thank goodness - and tended to a few minor tasks. So, the heavy work is about to begin. Rah.

It won’t last long. Temps are mid-70s already and it’s too humid to suit me. If I last an hour, it’ll be a miracle. OK. Onward!

Yay! I hope that the light is shining brightly at the end of the tunnel in your case.

As a woman with three sisters, adversarial is pretty normal for sisters. Granted, the relationship of an AMB generally is a different one with a parent than AFB.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and fixing to do KP. I’ll go get some groceries today. Not a whole lot needed. I’d just pop into Aldi if it weren’t for produce (IME, if you don’t expect to eat it with 48 hours, skip that there). I may just pop into FoodTown rather than Joe V.'s simply because it’s quicker.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

Nope, didn’t last an hour. Almost made 45 minutes, but the humidity was just too much. And since FCD isn’t here at the moment, I knew I shouldn’t push it. So I’ll shower and leave the rest of the gravel for another day.

FWIW, he bought 1700#, slightly overloading our half-ton truck. I’ve unloaded more than half of it and I think the remaining gravel will be enough to do what I want to do. After I shower and dress, I’ll get some pics.

To quote Danny Glover as Murtaugh, I’m too old for this shit! Well, not entirely accurate. Without the heat and humidity, I could have finished. Oh well…

Off to get clean!

{ applause } That was a brave step.

That’s so effed up.

I wouldn’t have even noticed if y’all hadn’t pointed it out here, so … thanks!!

Still true, but that last word may need a bit of updating …

Ah, crap, I gotta pay rent again?!

I noticed that, too.

Holy crap.

Everyone gotta eat.

One of the cool things in Portland was that we had a “guy” for almost anything that needed to be done. Basically a tradesman that we trusted to give us a fair price and good results. I kept a spreadsheet with their names. We had a gardening guy, a carpeting guy, a painter guy, an RV repairs guy, etc. It gave Portland a small-town vibe.

82F at 1000, with an expected high of 91Ferrets. Rain and 80s predicted for the next three days.

I hate to turn on the oven, but we’ve got ripe peaches that need to be used and I’m jonesing for a cobbler. Otherwise, no activities planned for the day.

No such luck. Ah well. The owner would have helped me on the fourth, but she’s moving her father to an assisted living facility, so she’s having a fun fourth.

A good, albeit late morning. Was up about 5:30am to Micturate, so went back to bed and figured I’d get up about 7am…and it was nearly 9am before I did wake up. Guess I was a little more tired yesterday than I thought. Have eaten and hydrated and will shortly get about the serious business of doing as little as possible at the end of 2025 and 1/2 years Anno Domini. And besides, it’s already past 90F before 10am, so a big nope on any outside work. But first, a lot of reading to catch up on.

Oopsie, sorry to hear about BFF’s news, but they sound like strong folks and prostate cancer can be treated. Best wishes to them (and you).

Mollie, 18 years is a pretty good run for a cat, my condolences to your Sis. And conga-rats for the official SDMP name change!

VanGO, my wallet has important rectangles in them, they are green and have numbers on them…and I see others have already made the obvious reference and you responded, but I’m to lazy to delete it. It does make me think of how many rectangles are in my billfold, however…

red, sorry, but it was Brazil 2 Japan 1 (soccer geek here). But one reason I am not going to any of the games despite being a fan is the ridiculous costs involved.

JtC, sitting around the house can be boring, especially if your an active person, but just try to absorb the Zen of GG and take it easy.

No arguments here!

shoe, a happy doperversary to you!

boo fae, I can sympathize with 'Im Indoors, I am of the same temperment, but I do get contractors here periodically when things really need it, hopefully he’ll realize that too, like FCD did.

hippie, appendages crossed for a successful Doc visit and getting you off the drugs.

Knots, you don’t happen to have an Android phone, too?

lucky, best wishes for a diagnosis and treatment.

rocky, happy ‘putting things together for things’ Day!

Taters, just go with the flow on Hubs, he’s determined he’s going to do it so any obstacles you present will only stiffen his resolve and cause him to resent you (IMHO of course–and being a single guy what I know about married couples is very thin). But hopefully he knows his limitations. I have 4-5 colors in my house (bathrooms are green) so I know it can work, but should be done in consultation with you. And here endeth the Monday Morning Quarterbacking…

FCM, stay cool. Overheating/Heat Exhaustion is nothing you want to experience. That goes for all of you under the Heat Dome as the news is calling it.

And that’s all for now, need to get the morning Apple for snackage and then decide what I am not going to do with my day. Have a good one all.

Living in the past, are you??

I’m clean of body and clean of attire. I just finished ingesting some lunch. The ice maker is making good ice and shortly, I shall reunite my butt with my recliner. After FCD gets back, I’ll take a few photos of my morning’s work. Then I’ll chill till the kidlets descend upon the household.

Cue Jethro Tull.

Pics - feel free to scroll thru. OK, it’s recliner time.

Saw the endodontist and I don’t need a root canal. Yeah me!

Stopped at the Dollar Tree for the making of a ghetto ice wrap for Ariel’s leg. Two rolls of elastic support bandage, one in neon green and one in neon orange. A box of Kool Pops. Place a few frozen KPs on her leg, wrap with bandage. Leave on til the KPs melt. I can refreeze. Cost $3 as opposed to a single official ice boot for $60.

The side effects have been beating me up pretty bad

Yeah - that’s the part that’s making me nervous.

Kudos, kudos, kudos!!!

I was going to walk to work this morning but the outside temp was higher than the house and the humidity was so sticky; so I drove instead.

Iga Swiatek (squiggly under the a) eats this. I believe this was mentioned last year when she was competing at and won Wimbledon. Yes, people thought it was weird. I’m surprised my Babcia on the farm never made this.

I had to do something similar except it was a zoom session. Ours is called “Protecting God’s Children”. Then we have to authorize a background check and review & sign a volunteer code of conduct. Too bad this wasn’t implemented for priests a heck of a long time ago (and for nun’s in our NE friend’s case.

The blood donation really took all the energy out of me so I wasn’t able to stay up and see it. Heck.

JtC so very sorry that mean letters were sent to you, which were totally incorrect in what they alleged, when you attempted to do a very good deed.

I didn’t notice either but took another look and see a nice slice of cake. Happy Doperversay shoe!

Hubs just returned from the dentist for x-rays and a cleaning $400. The dentist said he needs a crown replaced as it appears there is infection under it. Will be $1,700.

It’s June 30 so we’ll be going to Kroger gas later to use up our May points.

It didn’t seem buys on the slides, and there wasn’t a lot of rewraps and damages afterwards, but it did run long, nobody ran the missorts and rewraps from between the 100 and 200 Slides, and The Supreme Shouting Officer was having a Come To the FSM meeting with the Unload head and a couple of other FT sups after the drivers left. I stopped and had Carmen’s oil changed after work, and since the rich People’s Aldi was across the street, I stopped and bought ice cream.

< crosses appropriate and inappropriate appendages >

We need to start calling you Seven of Nott.

Quenya, Sindarin, it’s all Greek to me. :woman_mage:

It is official! No more Abiraterone! No more Orgorvyx! I need to wean my system of the Prednisone gradually over the next three weeks.

Well, I took a chance and made the peach cobbler and am glad I did. Dayum, but that’s some good stuff, and very easy to make. I addressed my problems with this cheap stove by turning on the broiler for the last five minutes to crisp up the top. I really don’t understand what the problem is with this stupid thing. It gets up to temp (verified by thermometer readings) and stays at temp, but things don’t get brown. And yes, the upper element is functioning.

great news lh75!
