Said by hardly anyone…
Huh. Something someone posted on the AV club convinced me that this was the season finale. No wonder it felt underwhelming!
Sorry for the confusion.
I really got into the philosophy Eleanor was dropping. I try to live GOOD, but I know that sometimes you have to do white lies. I struggle sometimes with if it’s hypocrisy. But the thing she espoused (moral particularism?) was really what I needed to hear. I can do the right thing FOR THE SITUATION even if it’s against my general outlook and not be a giant hypocrite.
I liked the other ad in the station - the one for the pitchfork: “Elegant. Timeless. Triple-stabby.”

I also loved the music at the party. It was a smooth jazz rendition of “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer.”

Well, I think we can safely say that Michael isn’t a construct. Also I think Shawn’s attempt to bypass the extradition process by invading the Medium Place may have seriously bad consequences for him.
American Tahani was hilarious; especially name dropping celebrities she’s tortured. I do think it would’ve been better if Chidi sold his “torture” idea by just being himself as starting to talk about philosophy “as a demonstration” instead of trying to explain it in bro-speak.
I watch in on Hulu, and they could’ve gotten away with real curse words.
The announcements were fun too:
“The train is 3 hours late, like always”
“You are all ugly and stupid”.
Actually, I kind of wondered about that.
If the train were always 3 hours late, you could plan around that. It would be much worse if the train were sometimes late or early by a randomly varying amount of time. And, now and then, randomly, it would be right on time. But the Bad Janet conductor wouldn’t wait for latecomers.
And the announcement, “You. In the weird coat. You’re ugly and stupid” would be MUCH more effective than a blanket insult to the crowd. That way, everyone would wonder if the ugly and stupid one is them.
Except that the demon apparently like terrible stuff. The trains are always three hours late? Awesome, that sucks. There are no humans in that train station to torture; all of that is for the benefit of the demons.
Apparently the Bad Place still waiting for Joe Francis to arrive. Given that centuries probably passed during the “Good Place” experiment everyone must be outside of “time” as it passes on Earth.
Can we trace a line from current white-dreadlock wearing back to those medieval/ancient Europeans’ practice? Or did they get it, tracing it back, to black people?
I don’t have a strong opinion about cultural appropriation in this case but I have wondered if the “vikings did it” argument really holds water. If the Vikings did it, but then no Europeans did it for centuries, and white people started doing it later on because doing black people stuff is cool, then the viking angle is a red herring.
Maybe the season ending revelation will be that Michael is in purgatory and the Good Place was his way of redeeming himself.
Episode: “The Burrito”
Another great episode. Chidi’s test is one of the best sight gags I’ve seen for a long time, the identity of Janet was obvious but well played, and some massive proof of growth for Eleanor.
I also would like to know what Quvenzhane Wallis and Stephen Hawking think about Tahani.
Great episode - I did not see the Janet switch coming, but I’m glad it happened instead of her dropping another epic fart.
Maya Rudolph as the judge - hysterical!
I don’t know where this show is going next but it’s really been enjoyable so far.
Like the Judge I could probably watch a half hour of Tahani just saying stuff.
She wouldn’t even have to talk! The accent is just a bonus. ![]()
Jason cracks me up. “Oh, that’s why his name is Chidi! Now I get it!”
Loving her is easy 'cause she’s beautiful.
Forgot to add (best moment of the episode):
Michael saying to Shawn: “as one of my true friends once said, YA BASIC! It’s a devastating insult…you’re devastated right now.”
Yeah his delivery of that was perfect.
