The Good Place [edited title]

Say, did anyone also watch *Supernatural *last night? There were some *very *strange parallels between the two shows. It made for a weird double feature.

Well this episode was intense to say the least. D’Arcy Carden deserves an award. It sure seems like Michael is right about the points system being rigged to keep humans out of the Good Place, but wrong about who rigged it. Interesting that the Head Accountant didn’t mention Mindy St Clair when talking about how infallible the system is (granted her Neutral Place was apparently just a restricted suburb of the Bad Place, not the really Neutral Place). I can’t wait to finally see the actual Good Place, actual “angels”, & humans who ended up there.

This does give them a lot of wiggle room whichever direction they go in.

68, and as a result “he’s screwed,” per the accountant.

Age plays some kind of role in how your final points are calculated.

Of course, now they’ve got the book of Dougs they have information on the points total of Eleanor’s and Jason’s dads as well as Doug Forcett.

Yep. I’ve been waiting for The Empty to show back up again.

Pretty sure that’s just because he’s only got 20, MAYBE 30 years to get up to the benchmark. So for a young man his score would be on track, but for someone who could get a senior discount if he didn’t think that would be cheating the company out of their money, it’s hopeless.

Eleanor was definitely “Bad”, and so was Jason. But Chidi and Tahani? Flawed, yes, but not “bad”.

Me too, but I was referring to how both shows featured their own versions of the accountant of the afterlife. The odds that two programs on the same day would decide to introduce such a weirdly specific supernatural entity…

Here’s a thought; nobody’s gotten into the Good Place for over 500 years, and apparently only 1 person has gotten to a Neutral Place (which is still technically in the Bad Place), so unless there’s some an option we haven’t heard about yet (like reincarnation) the Bad Place is also filled with people who died in childhood or infancy (possibly even in utero). I wonder if the show’s ever going to address that.

Almost a throw away line - if we listen with our ears why is it butt overhear.

I couldn’t help butt laugh at that line.

So we have, what, a three-week wait until we find out more?

It’s not just our introduction to The Good Place that we’ll be looking forward to–it’s also the certain complications that will come from Jason and Tahani’s new knowledge of Janet’s feelings about Jason.

Somebody explain that joke to me, please and thank you.

A common expression (used in the dialogue) is “I couldn’t help but overhear.” Jason reveals that he believes that what people are actually saying is “I couldn’t help butt-overhear”—as though “butt” is an adverb modifying “overhear.”

:smack:

That was actually Eleanor pretending to be Jason.

Great star turn by D’Arcy Carden! Loved the Og and Grog paintings and Stephen Merchant’s typing style.

Well, Tahani’s knowledge. Jason likely forgot all about it the moment he had that awesome tube-ride, if not sooner.

Oh–hadn’t remembered that. Good catch!

Though Jason may never have actually taken in the idea that Janet had feelings for him; he might just have thought that she thought that getting married would be an interesting thing to do.

Jason doesn’t seem to worry about what other people think of him–whether they like him or not, much less love him. He’s the antithesis of neurosis (say that three times fast!)

Two things, having just watched it…

  1. D’arcy Carden is going to be promoted for an Emmy, right? That was some fine acting. Especially D’Arcy as Janet as Eleanor pretending to be Jason.

  2. Was…was that Amy Poehler with a nose ring for a second there as Eleanor kept shifting bodies?
