I recall them from when I was a kid in the 1950s. I hadn’t realized they were quite so old.
My mother (b. 1955) would quote them a lot when we were growing up and being naughty. She tried to introduce to my nieces, almost.
I still have a few commited to memory.
Goodness, gracious sakes alive
Mother said be home at five
Now the clock is striking six
I am in an awful fix
She will say I can’t be trusted
And she’ll say that she’s disgusted
