The Great 2012 SDMB Summer Postcard Exchange!

In the U.S., many drugstores carry postcards. Or try gift shops at museums or historic sites.

Buckeyes are either the nuts of the buckeye tree, or the chocolate-and-peanut-butter candies that look like them. Never had a deep-fried buckeye, or even heard of them.

gardentraveller’s card to me had a picture of the candy, with recipe. Looks like a possible Christmas baking opportunity.

Buckeyes are popular around here at Christmas, NP. I don’t think they’re terribly hard to make as long as you figure out how to dip them reliably.

Postcards are certainly not as easy to find as they used to be. I looked in several places that used to carry them last time and found that the little shop in the building where I work carries them.

I’ve got a couple of ideas for finding more for the next round (bookstore, art museum, the Ohio Statehouse…).

I was having trouble finding any (even our local drugstore didn’t have any), and was running out of time - didn’t want to be late and run afoul of the hard-nosed Postcard Exchange Administrator!

So I sent out some that I happened to have from Ottawa, which is why my recipients got cards from Canada’s capital instead of Saskatchewan themed ones. But today I found some Saskatchewan - themed ones at our provincial Legislature building, which I’ll use for the next round.

Last one going out today.

Happily I now live in a quasi-tourist area, so we do have postcards for sale.

I am a little dismayed that only one of mine seems to have received. Should I be worried it won’t get there at all? Should I send another?

And yes, I had a terrible time finding postcards. I usually stock up on Alabama themed ones when I find them in gas stations.

Hey all…

I just want to apologize for being slow on sending my cards out. I’ve been a little spacey this summer…too much on my plate I guess. Anyway, the cards went out in the mail yesterday and I have received cards from IvoryTowerDenizen, Northern Piper and minionkat.

Sorry again for the delay!!

Two of yours were going out of the US, so it may take a bit longer, ShelliBean.

I live in a tourist Mecca so it’s pretty easy to find them, but good ones are hard to find.

Next round I’m sending “old timey” cards from local antique shops. They cost maybe 2-3 bucks, and sometimes it’s hard to find “local” stuff, but for you guys it’s worth it

I came home today to a super cute island turtle courtesy of Iggy. Thank you!

Glad to see my third one delivered to Francis Castle, I was growing a bit concerned.

Postcards are ridiculously hard to find. Well, ones I like. there are lots of generic Canada ones, and that’s okay, but I had my heart set on sending ones specific to the city, or even the region. I went to a great museum in town, and they had just had some printed featuring some of their exhibits. Lucky me.

Atomic Mama sez, "I gots all mines !

Cool! Two I’ve sent out have arrived. One more to go.

And evry’ting still on island time here. When the postman drop the arriving postcards at the front porch of the kindly old postmistress’ house I’l get the other ones. General Delivery in the Caribbean has a whole different meaning!

And a card arrived from Anya Marie today - a kangaroo, developing the exotic animal theme begun by ScarieFaerie’s giraffe card. Thanks!

Ok. It’s just (1) I’m kinda an impatient bitch, and (2) once upon a time years ago I flaked in sending a gift for an exchange here and put myself in self-imposed exile for a while on these things and I’m scared to death to do it inadvertently!

I was on the list as having received all three, but I hadn’t, but now i should be, because I just got my third from Lsura! Love the library, btw- in fact, I want to be a librarian when I grow up!

And, yes, I’m 37. Took me a while to figure out what i want to be when i grow up

I received one postcard but I don’t know who it’s from! I had to leave for two weeks to take care of my sick parents and have someone picking up the mail, she sent an email saying a postcard arrived but didn’t say who it’s from.

So thank you someone!

I’m back on the 9th so I’ll know who sent what and I’m guessing that the other two will have arrived as well.

Does anyone have any idea when Round 2 will take place? I’ll be on holiday for most of September and I don’t want to miss out!

I was thinking about that. I’m going on holidays for two weeks with no computer access (cottage at a Saskatchewan lake with no tv or landline). Will be back on-line around August 20. How about I start a round 2 thread now for sign-ups, and when I get back I’ll send out the addresses for the next round? Deadline for posting will be the end of August.

Yay! Glad it got there

And it took me a while too - I’m a second career librarian.

I am still waiting for one to show up. I don’t get much personal mail so it is exciting to go to the PO every day looking for that last card.
