Also known as the great books of the western world series by Britannica. Has anyone seriously followed the recommended style of reading for all 54 books? They seem to stress so-called syntopical reading instead of integral reading; all to be done during a period of ten years. I’ve barely finished six so far (Homer, Plutarch, Gibbon, Kant, Shakespeare, Darwin, Melville), during different times, and I don’t think I have the energy to go through most of them when researching one topic. My friends say that style of cross-border reading is PhD-level. Any thoughts on this?
