The Great Crappy Beer Appreciation Thread

[QUOTE=Caffeine.addict]
I used to love Genesee Creme Ale and Mickey’s. A friend of mine worked out that buying forties was cheaper than buying six packs and cases so that was what we drank.

holy crap, did we go to high school in upstate NY together? I remember many cases of Genny Screamers, Mickeys and of course Matts as my HS beers of frugal choice. Got me through many a weekend.

In college it was (as far as crappy beers went) PBR, Genesee, Carling Black Label, Labatts and Narragansett as the go-to crappy beers.

I thought that this thread was about crappy beer. There’s no f-in way Yuengling falls into that category. It may be inexpensive in places, but definitely not cheap and crappy.

Agreed, I got sidetracked thinking inexpensive rather than repulsive – I was just in the supermarket, and sixers of both the lager and black & tan were the same price as Budweiser, und so weiter. There doesn’t seem to be any rock-bottom local swill in Southern NY (like Natty Bo or Narragansett), just the usual array of awful beers with “Ice” in their names. (Like I want beer with ice in it.) Anyway, I don’t buy cheap beer anymore. I do remember the cheapest possible beer when I was in college was Old Bohemian, less than four bucks a case. Sheesh. I think it was Camden NJ tap water and grass clippings.

Like an inverse for Corona or Red Stripe? :wink:

And Fosters

Back in 80, in Colorado, that would be generic beer from the grocery store.

Since we where not 21, we stooped to this. White can, with big black lettering that simply stated BEER.

The generic pretzels where actually quite good, and I still miss them.

I have to admit I feel a little guilty enjoying this thread while sipping an Abita Restoration Ale. <hijack>Abita is my first or second favorite American brewery (along with Sierra Nevada.) </hijack>

Man, I had never tried Abita until I made it down here into their general geographic area, but they do make some damn fine beers. Purple Haze and Turbo Dog are my favorites.

I love Bud Light.

…i just want to say bud light is delicious :slight_smile: but millerr..is also a fave of mine

ok peace :stuck_out_tongue:

Yep, Turbo Dog on tap in New Orleans was my introduction. What a tasty brew. Dark as Guinness but not nearly as heavy, and with flavor. Thank goodness it’s available here now. The Restoration Ale came out after Katrina and part of the proceeds go back to the rebuilding effort. I’d buy it for that alone, but it’s a fantastic ale.

The truth in advertising award shall always reside with Olympia. Each can clearly states that “it’s the water”
