The Great Dope Post Card Exchange

I got that view in today’s mail, along with a Seashore State Park (Virginia) card from vunderbob. He went to college a few miles from where I now live, while he resides within commuting distance of my alma mater. Not only that, we have the same first name…

That one is from me. Check really carefully: my handwriting is really very cramped, as I tended to write a lot of stuff on the cards. It may be hidden among all of the standard <This is suchandsuch a ride at IOA>, or might be covered up if they put a bar code at the bottom. Or maybe I was a dumbass owl and forget to sign it. <smeckupsidethehaid>

Which card did you get? I ended up sending out 28 different views of both parks and individual attractions (shoulda made a list).

lainaf - right on the first count. Although I do have to say that, IMHO, “Revenge of the Mummy” is definitely going to be a Holy. <bleep>! Major. Buttkicking. Attraction.

     = me after 2.5 hours of being a ‘sandbag’ (test rider).

Two more today!

screech-owl, you work at such an awesome place! I bet you’ve been to every attraction by now?

Bambi Hassenpfeffer - You’re just trying to make me jealous, with your palm trees and your blue ocean and your sandy beaches!! And it’s working!

Yup. Been there. Done that. Rode the ride. Bought the t-shirt. And the on-ride photo. And the coffee mug. And the action figures. And the ink pens. And the ballcaps. And the puppets. And the snowglobes. And the beach towels. And the plush toys. And the cookie jar.

Oh yeah, and now the postcards.

Sigh…you are my hero…

3 incoming today!

vunderbob, the Virginia seashore. I lived in the Shenandoah Valley for 5 years and never made it to the ocean.

tanookie, cool looking castle.

Low Key, nice looking Poseidon statue.

Lok

Some more thankyous to Lok, Max Carnage and libwen. I may have to take up some of your offers to visit because your towns look a lot better than mine.

Glad to hear that my cards haven’t all vanished into the Big Black Hole; hopefully there’ll be more arriving soon.

Got 3 in the mail just a few minutes ago!

Lok, I got my username from where I work–Fort Rodd Hill National Historic Site. That’s a beautiful old library (and good to know it’s protected on the National Register!) The family on my card is an interesting group–I’ve interviewed 6 of the kids in the photo (the eldest of whom is now 94 years old) about living here in the 1920s. Lots of neat stories.

Cowgirl Jones we all said simultaneously, “oooohh, a B-17G with chin turret!” (We’re such geeks.) And the USPS thoughtfully used a cool “Shrek” cancel.

libwen, we’re lucky enough here with the mild climate to have the “curious, colorful” robin around all year. I always make an effort to get my Scottish mother a Christmas card with a robin motif, as the bird is seen in the UK as a symbol of the Yuletide. (Of course, it’s a different bird over there–ours is actually a thrush, if I remember correctly).

Thanks for brightening the day!

Glad you liked it Rodd. I tried to send the Air Museum cards to people I thought would like them - too bad I did it before the Air Museum thread was out.

I got postcards yesterday from Ravenous Lady (love the manatees), roxx222 (and I’ll have to try your recipe), and screech-owl. Thanks all!

My kids are loving this. My smallest son likes to lay them all out and talk about them.

I got yours yesterday
And one from libwen? That would be Julia, I’m not sure if I spelled the username correctly.
Still no one has received mine?

Ok - for all of you who have been waiting desparately for your postcards from the Crossroads of America, I apologize for being so late. We’re in the process of buying a house, and I just got around to buying my postcards today.

[smarmy TV announcer voice]

Don’t worry! Your very own glossy postcard featuring a lovely photo of one of Indianapolis’s landmarks will be on its way within days! I have a wide variety to choose from, some of which include museums, skyline photos, and the racetrack. Sorry - I just don’t have time to take requests. You’ll have to be thrilled with what I send you, and no doubt you will!! So be on the lookout for your very own postcard, complete with a rare and/or interesting fact regarding its subject matter, hand-addressed by ME!

oohhh. shoot. i’m too late. i’ll have to wait for the next round.

[hijack, with shameless plug]

Did you find the house yet? Want to take a look at mine? I just dropped $$$$ on it trying to get it sold. Far east side location, near the Marriott on 21st Street…

[/hijack, with shameless plug]

Hey fishcheer15…
I sent you one
did ya get it…
Oh I hope it didnt get lost in the mail :frowning:

[fret]also I hope the ones to aankh and j_sum1 and nocturnal tick made it safe and sound… I always worry when sending little things thru the post overseas[/fret]

Got Tanookie’s wonderful Massachusetts castle card yesterday. It looks like a great place!

Yeah, I’ve been getting a lot of cards to “ibwen,” so I either misspelled my name or the lowercase “ell” looks like an uppercase “eye,” and people thought it was a duplicate letter. I’m leaning towards the former (jeez, how brilliant that makes me feel!).

I went to the mail today. I got a bunch of beautiful cards.

Cowgirl Jules ~San Joaquin Valley Agriculture
Archergal~Duluth Montessori School
johnkusters ~La Jolla Shores
Tanookie ~Winnekenni Castle, Haverhill MASS.
vunderbob ~Chesapeake Bay Crab Soup

This has been so much fun. Thank you to everyone that has sent me a postcard. And special thanks to misstee for making this happen.

I haven’t got one from you yet, but I may not have been on your list.

I have! Actually, I’ve received one from you, Baker, screech-owl, Craneop2, Archergal, Elenia25, Hugh Jass, Bambi Hassenpfeffer, jackelope, lok, and dbygawdcapn. I sent mine on Friday, I hope they all get where they’re going.

1 card in today’s mail.

jkusters, that is a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline. Don’t worry, if you hang around here long enough, your post count will grow.

A few people got a postcard with our county courthouse which is even older. It is also on the National Register. I know large families were more common back then, but they sort of took it to the extreme.

Lok

Acccckkkk!! The rest of my cards are going out tomorrow, I swear!!!
I lost them, went to go buy more, found them, got a job interview, quit my job, unquit my job…sigh
Tomorrow the rest of mine go out…I promise.

Thanks, purplycow!! I’m glad I got to see something else of Malaysia than the Petronas Towers, which is the about the only thing I could recognise
