The Great Dope Post Card Exchange

Congratulations j_sum1, you are the furthest person away from me to send me anything. I like the weather joke, we did actually just have one sunny day followed by the rest of the week being miserable.

BTW I got a three-of-a-kind (Two sevens and a joker). Does that mean I win?

Anyway, you dopers have got to stop inviting me to crash at you place because I will take you up on your offers, you know. Even you j_sum1. Just because you’re on the other side of the world doesn’t mean I can’t reach you. I have shovels. :stuck_out_tongue:

In the last couple of days, I’ve received a montage of Arizona scenes from **Irreverent Tone and two cards from Dazzling White Diamonds. By the way, DWD, I’m quite familiar with the Beef House – it’s about halfway between the Purdue and Illinois campuses, and the basketball booster group to which I belong stops there when we take our bus trips to see the Boiler women play the Fighting Illini. You might have seen me on campus or in town and never known you were crossing paths with a fellow Doper. If you ever spot a guy who’s wearing a Keeton Elk Farm cap, take a chance and introduce yourself…

Alright somebody mentions the Beef House and I know I’m getting in on the conversation. It’s on 74 going west, close to the Illinois border, right? They have the tastiest little rolls with a delightful strawberry sauce that is out of this world. And the steaks those are some lip smacking little critters too. Mmmmm. Who’s been lately? :dubious:

Got 2 in yesterday’s mail.

Burnt Sugar sent a beautiful view of Brisbane, or at least a part of it. And now I really want to get back down there. :frowning:

Dazzling White Diamonds sent a view of Purdue University. It looks nice, but I think I would still prefer going to Brisbane. :stuck_out_tongue:

Lok

Got a few more to thank:

libwen; yes, I’m very near Yosemite
laina f; thanks for the Alabama State Bird
Irreverent Tone; you live in a beautiful place
Rez; Wow, I didn’t know Birmingham was so big

Thanks guys, this has been fun!

Someone finally got one! Woohoo! I’m glad you liked the card. Brisbane isn’t the most famous part of Australia, but that doesn’t mean it’s not lovely!

Over the weekend, I got cards from Dazzling White Diamonds and Irreverent Tone .

See, it IS a small world! I mean, whodathunkit? 2 people who don’t know one another from Adam or Eve that are members of the same message board wind up being in the same town (only I just work here… )

Yep, the Beef House is just off of I-74… take exit 4 onto State Route 63 and head north.

You’d think that with me living only a few minutes away that I would go to the Beef House more often, but truth be told, I haven’t been in probably a year or so. And as to the rolls… I have a recipe somewhere hiding in my house. If I find it, you want it?

I could have sent you one of Rockome Gardens (Arcola, IL) or of Forest Glen (down by Georgetown, IL).

I need to get my list of cards received and put them here. And I still have more cards to send out… I’ve been on vacation, and have been super SUPER busy at work. My apologies for the delay, but they are going out, I promise!

That is okay, I think I would still pick Australia over even Illinois.

Lok

Count me in if I’m not too late.

And the pleasant surprises just keep trickling in my mailbox. Since last time, much thanks to

OK, I took all the cards down from the wall to properly thank everyone.

Tanookie wow, just wow, the castle is the coolest ever !

Irreverent Tone my husband saw the card and decided if he was there, he would find the “Lost Dutchman Gold Mine”.

Cowgirl Jules The card of San Joaquin Valley is very pretty. Looks very relaxing.

laina Thanks for Elivs, love that guy, so hot when he was young, kind of reminds me of husband.

Burnt Sugar Australia looks so nice, I’m pretty sure I’ll never put foot on your land so keep the pictures coming! (I just can’t be in a plane that long).

vunderbob I LOVE CRAB! Definitely keeping recipie of Chesapeake Bay Crab Soup on the wall. If mother nature is nice this year, we should get some crabs out of the river and I’ll make the soup. And why is it called “Maryland crab meat”? Your crab on the picture looks the same as the one I get out of the back yard.

johnkusters San Diego looks like an awesome place. Definitely the kind of place I’d visit. We like boats in this house, so thanks for sending a pic with boats.

Screech-owl you’re practically in my back yard, Universal Studios. Will try to go there some day this summer, about 90 or so minutes away from me. The mummy thing does sound like fun.

Quiltguy154 I really enjoyed the quilt with the orange pattern. You have given me another idea for a hobby to play with and see if I enjoy. I like sewing, but have really only mastered straight lines.

Bambi Hassenpfeffer Your dolphin card is beautiful. I think we were both at the same store buying our cards. I was trying to decide between the one you sent and the manatee one. I’m glad I picked manatee.

dbygawdcapn I received your card first. How exciting ! I studied that card of the Petruzzelli-Theater so long and hard. Very nice. The cars are all old. Then the phallic structures appeared to me, and now that’s all I see when I look at the card.

Rodd Hill ok, that Seargeant Buxton… ummm, if I ever saw that man, I would run so fast. I really love that card.

Ashkicker Great Smoky Mountains, Cades Cove. So peaceful. This sounds a bit weird, but I imagine being burried under a tree just like the one in that picture. Somewhere nice and out in the country.

libwen Thank you so much for the pictures of the beautiful gardens. I need pictures because I’m so allergic to most of it. I almost sneeze just looking at it.

lok that’s quite a nice library, I bet it’s real pretty inside too.

Archergal Duluth Methodist Church, kind of matches lok’s library.

Avarie537 I was born in Indianapolis. When I was a little girl, my grandma would take me to “the circle” at Christmas time. We’d look at all the animated characters singing carols and such. I’m guessing that the Hilbert Circle Theatre is on the outside of the circle? Really neat to get that card and think, I walked right by that many times when I was adorable and little.

lowkey Boats ! I love any and all pictures of boats ! As long as I don’t have to clean the boat, I’m happy. (Can you tell what I did this last weekend?)

Dazzling White Diamonds Purdue University ! What a great place to work ! Your card was the only one to have a removable white sticker put on the front. I’m guessin the post office did that, but I can’t figure out why yet.

Steravogel I’m pretty sure I’ve screwed up the spelling of your name and proably a few others. I apologize, but knowing I’d spell names wrong is part of what kept me from thanking everyone individually. So, I’m just gonna go for it and screw a few up. I love your card too, it looks like old pictures and that is great.

And last but not least…The man from Austin,Texas. The post office completely marked out your screen name with a black crayon. Your name was on the bottom eighth inch and that is a no no. Texas is very nice, I used to have sales meetings there 2 times a year. Nice people.
Whew, thank you all for the cards. I bought 20 more post card stamps 2 days ago. As soon as I find more cards to buy, I’ll pop some more in the mail.

I am keeping the suspense going by sending mine out very slowly.

Been to Forest Glen many times, we used to take a trail to a lookout tower, it was really pretty. You know where Catlin, IL is? That is where I am from. And that’s how I know about The Beef House. About the roll recipe. I have never been able to make yeast bread. Actually I am a terrible cook in general. If it’s simple then I’ll take it.

Been out of town for a few days, got back to work to discover cards waiting for me!

BurntSugar, thanks for the views of Queensland-although we lack the colourful tropical fish, the rain forest view at the bottom of the card looks exactly like our temperate rainforest here on Vancouver Island! http://www.hicker.de/portfolio/panoramic1/flussgr.jpg

laina, thanks for the fragrant magnolia. Would you believe that we have a big old magnolia outside my building (a 1920s mansion used now as offices) that blooms every late February? Too bad the blossoms are so ephemeral…

RavenousLady, we had a good laugh at work with your “generic post card.” Put a bet on the dogs in Tampa for me. And by the way, Mrs. Buxton outlived Sgt. “Titch” by nearly 20 years, so I reckon she had the last laugh!

johnkusters, many thanks for the San Diego skyline by night! And best to Esprix! And remember, it’s not the size of your post count, but what you say with them!

We’ve done the lookout tower a time or two ourselves… I need to get back into shape before I do that again! And yes, I definitely know where Catlin is… I’m originally from Hoopeston, and worked in Danville for years. I have friends (from work - I used to work at Hyster when I was but a pup) that live in Catlin. Really nice place.

The roll recipe is simple, but tedious… you just have to remember to let the dough rise. I’ll root around and try to find it for ya. At the very least, if you knead the dough by hand you’ll have found an excellent tension outlet!

This Just In…

great card from Ashkicker, featuring the two and only Dolly Parton! Dollywood is in Pigeon Forge, TN, apparently. I had an uncle who did 5 to 10 for forging pigeons…

I graduated in Westville. I was just talking about Hoopeston the other day. When I got to go home last year, we went to the sweet corn festival. That is the absolute best. Free corn!!! I know exactly where Hyster is, my dad worked for General Motors in Tilton. What a small world.

Rodd Hill, I assume you got the busty postcard of Dolly, eh? Put those eyeballs back in their sockets buddy.

Burnt Sugar: Beautiful Australia. What stunning beaches. Thanks!

Dazzling White Diamonds: Pretty night picture of Purdue University. I didn’t get you on my list though. :frowning:

Thanks lainaf for the honeymoon card, you are right it does look foreboding.

Did you manage to get your answers you wanted, I was a bit confused when you started asking questions.

Anyways, thanks a lot.
