The great gay bouquet! Do your part to support loving couples today

I came across this live journal entry tonight ( It’s a public entry, I don’t think there is any harm in posting it here ). I don’t know whos LJ it is, but it was linked from a friend of a friend…that’s how things work in LJ land. Anyway, the idea is this: Call up a florist in the San Francisco bay area, and have a bouquet delivered to a random same sex couple in line to be married. These people have waited for a long, long time to be able to legitimise their unions in the eyes of the state and they now have that chance, for the moment. This past week the inevitable backlash from the bigots and neanderthals has been grabbing most of the headlines, I am sure that some of these folks feel very alone, like they’re grabbing a straw that is shortly going to be pulled away from them, determined to get married while they have the chance, as short as that time frame may be. I think it’s a great idea-sending random people flowers for their wedding, proving that there are a great many Americans who don’t buy into the bullshit that has prevented same sex marriages for far to long. There is information in the linked thread about specific florists who are already involved in the effort, but I imagine FTD can handle it. The address of city hall is:

CITY HALL
1 CARLTON B GOODLETT PL
SAN FRANCISCO CA 94102-4603

I say we bury City Hall in flowers and help these couples who have been forced to rush into a courthouse wedding instead of a more traditional one surrounded by friends and family celebrate in style.

That’s a great idea, Weirddave. Thank you. I like the last suggestion: To send flowers to President Bush, to celebrate the gay marriages. [though I rather send him some weed :)]

I wonder if I can order flowers via some credit-card accepting shop. I have no idea if they’ll accept orders from the Netherlands.

I saw this on LJ too (probably through the same friend) and think it’s extremely cool. If I weren’t broke, I would definitely send one or two.

Apparently, you can also send just a single rose if you would like. I just got my student loan $ in, so I sent a small boquet (it was $38 total). They also ask permission to give your info to the couple if they call and ask for it, so they can send you a thank you.

If I lived in San Fran, I would go down to that courthouse with a big 'ol sign saying: Straight And Proud!!!
of all of you. Best wishes on your wedding day.

Maybe someone will want to send a flower or two to the couples getting married in Sandoval County, New Mexico? The clerk’s office started issuing licenses today and the couples have been streaming in.
