The Great SDMB Winter 2014 Postcard Exchange!

A reminder to American Dopers - domestic postcard stamps are now 34 cents, effective Jan. 26.

Yes, sorry. Check back with me for the next go-round, please.

Got my list! Now to find postcards.

Elendil’s Heir declares that the Black Gate is closed.

Who’s got two thumbs and needs to go postcard hunting over the weekend?

Probably a lot of people in this thread, but also me.

My three are signed, stamped and on their merry way.

:: ka BOOM ::

Mine hit the mails this morning, bound for the Deep South, the frozen Mid-West and far Canuckistan.

:frowning: Understood.

Subscribed to this thread now.

Cards are on their way, but as only one will stay on this continent, please be patient!:stuck_out_tongue:

holds up thumbs

Thanks for the postage reminder, E’s Heir. Now, uh – where’s a good place to buy postcards? Can’t remember seeing them outside airports in a long while …

Look at “local” or “boutique” grocery stores. That’s where I found mine.

You might check roadside rest stops that have maps and pamphlets on local attractions. Got a local museum? Check the gift shop.

I’m going to our local museum as well. Drug stores with postal outlets here in Canada often have them as well.

I bought mine at a store called Kansas Sampler. It has tons of Kansas related stuff, with clothing and knick-knacks from state universities as well. Plus Wizard of Oz gee-gaws. I stay away from those. When I was out of state in the military, I hated naming my home state as everyone wanted to make some lame joke about Toto or Dorothy.

When we have the annual shotglass exchange it’s where I go to get glasses.

I have several tourist souvenir shops just near my office, so I can get postcards easily from them.

I think the cards I bought this time are exactly the same as those I sent last time.

Mine are now written, stamped and winging their way through the postal system

Oh yeah and if anyone’s still looking for where to find them - I went down to our local tourist depot and picked mine up there - free. Also found out while I was in there that they’re going to be starting a train buff thingy this next summer - which I have GOT to get in on. Love me some trains.

If you ever have to come through Topeka, Kansas(It’s on I-70) be sure to check out our restored Great Overland Station. http://www.greatoverlandstation.com/

Museum gift shops and local or state historical societies are my favorite sources. There’s also a nostalgia-Fifties toy store nearby that has all kinds of funky old postcards for sale.

Ooooh, thankyooverymuch! I’ll check that link out, not sure if I’d ever get to Kansas though but I’ll keep it in mind!

I got two of my postcards! Anaamika and Elendil’s Heir have been sharp and on the ball - and I have not yet been either sharp or on the ball. I’m dropping mine in the box tomorrow probably

The postcards are awesome - a beautiful ship and a cool pic of a droplet just as it hits- thanks!

Just got Anaamika’s postcard, showing a suitably monumental state office building in Albany, N.Y., yesterday.
