The Great SDMB Winter 2014 Postcard Exchange!

Got my third postcard – a photo taken by Johnny Bravo of a big ol’ male bison standing near a bench and looking over as if to say, “Go on. Sit down. I dare ya.” Must have been quite a sight in person!

Thanks, JB, and watch out for alligators!

Yay! I was just coming to this thread to see if any of my postcards had shown up.

Having finally headed to the mailbox for yesterday’s mail, I found that I got Northern Piper’s second postcard. It’s an authentic Canadian Moose! I want to cut it out, put it together and hang a gold medal around it after this morning’s hockey game!

Thanks!

Now I’m just waiting for my 3rd card to arrive at its destination!

I’ve got my second postcard today! Well, technically yesterday but I didn’t set foot outside the door to retrieve the mail until today. Lazy I know.
This one is from Iggy and is a beautiful, warm and tropical scene (that does it- I’m MOVING) along with a shot of a rather large boat anchor. The stamp is VERY cool - two ships on the water, look like they’re racing. It’ll definitely go into my stamp collection

I have postcards from all three of my senders, but I have a total of five, since one sender sent three cards.

Stamp collecting trivia:

Those two boats are based on patrol vessels used by the Royal Cayman Islands Police Marine Unit. It was part of a series of stamps honoring the various emergency services. All are drawings (slightly cartoon-ized) instead of being photo realistic.

Police, Fire, Ambulance, and even 9-1-1 (where I work) got a stamp. It is believed to be the first stamp in the world honouring a 9-1-1 center. The 9-1-1 stamp image is clearly that of a coworker.

Very nifty - thanks for the info!

I’m back from the delights of cold Chicago and finding the warmth, and particularly the brightness, of Sydney a bit of a shock.

And awaiting me in today’s delivery of held mail were three cards from Mortal Wombat, bemoaning the grey, gloom and wet of the UK and then continuing with an amusing stream of consciousness.

This is very weird Board/Tapatalk behaviour.

When I read Elendil’s Heir’s post, it shows up as saying:

But when I quoted the post to advise that I’ve got a card, it shows up as:

QUOTE=Elendil’s Heir

One received:

Cunctator
Northern Piper

Corrections and updates welcome./QUOTE

I’m invisible!

(Square brackets removed to show it as it comes up with the quote function.)

At any rate, yes, I’ve got one card, from Silenus.

Query: what do other posters see in post 145? Do I show up? If so, what browser are you using?

Okay, even when I posted it without quote, the reference to Northern Piper disappeared.

When i hit the quote function, the coding shows both “Cunctator” and “Northern Piper” within a single set of bold codes, with a return putting them on two lines. However, what I see is just “Cunctator”.

Is it the combination of bold and a return that is the problem?

I’m pretty sure that the mathematician in me works out that both Cunctator and Minionkat received 7 cards each just based on the fact that Baker and myself sent 3 to our postcard posse. I received 5 in total and I’d imagine Baker has the same. Don’t ask me to solve the “crucial conundrum” tho :stuck_out_tongue:

Back from the Ottawa trip with fresh cards for round # 2! And, a lovely card from Pai325 waiting for me, showing a peaceful university campus, Eastern Illinois University. Thanks!

With muscle car stamps!

[Boris] Moose has arrived, Natasha! [/Boris]

I just received my card from Johnny Bravo today. Wow - and thanks a lot for the gator. That’s really impressive!

I got my third card yesterday (Tuesday) from minionkat. It’s a photo of a lovely flower - an orchid of some sort, I’d say.

You show up for me. I use Chrome.

must be a tapatalk thing - I’m back home and using my MacBook with Safari, and I’m showing up now. very odd.

Reporting in to say I’ve received card #3 this week! Actually it came on Monday and I apologize for being late but have been without internet all week - ice took things down. So here I am to say I have all 3 cards, the last from TokyoBayer and a nice green-looking postcard with a TRAIN ON IT YEAH!!! ahem sorry 'bout that, got a little excited.
