The Great Summer 2014 Postcard Exchange!

Here’s the website for the Sternberg Museum of Natural History, where the postcard came from.

http://sternberg.fhsu.edu/

Currently there is an exhibit about all 22 rattlesnake species in Kansas, with live examples of each. It’s called Rattlerssss: From Fear to Fascination. I remember on snake had a cage buddy, a white mouse, that didn’t know what was in store for it later.

brainstall, that’s one adorable puppy!

Got a card from faithfool! Thanks; beautiful old photo of an antique hotel

The postmark says “Aug. 4”, so it has taken quite some time to hop over the ocean. Just a datapoint to give an idea of the delays to be expected with international postcards

Algher sent me an actual tree! Or at least the proof of there being one planted, in postcard form. I like it.

Great! I was guessing on postage I will admit.

Looks like the going rate is two birds … or less.

My three cards went out on deadline date, and I’m feeling a bit guilty about that since I now have received all of the cards coming to me!

I got another from jayrey showing some lovely view of Oregon, one from Atomic Mama showing a ‘Maine Shore Dinner’, which seems to involve mostly lobster. And one from Labtrash from a hotel in Memphis, which has ducks!

I"m here to report that I’ve just received two lovely cards from JoseB - and they are well worth the wait! One is a beautiful brightly colored card filled with parrots! The other is from Holland and is filled with a profusion of pink tulips - very pretty indeed! Nice and cheery cards to fill in the grey days we’ve had for the past week.
…and I have to say Jose you are quite the poet with that lovely description of a sunset!

I’m so glad you like it. Vintage stuff is the bomb. And by the same token, your cards arrived today too. I agree that they were definitely worth the wait, I’m just not sure which I like better. Holland is gorgeous, but the one with the Tango dancers makes me want to get up and dance. They look so passionate. Rowwr! Thanks so much.

I came home to a tree today, too! It completely made my day. I even said to my cat, “Algher wins the postcard exchange”. There was no reply.

In other postcard news, I also received two cards last week. A super cute, vintagey postcard from Arrogance Ex Machina. I love that it is from Finland, but en français.

I also got my bonus card from williambaskerville in Ireland, a place I have long wanted to visit. My Mom and I have talked about going. Perhaps next year.

Three excellent additions to my postcard collage. Thank you all!

I bought the cards first before I got my list of addresses, then when I saw that one of the recipients was in Canada I thought maybe you can actually understand what it says - I actually had to use Google translate to check which language it is in.

Harumph. What is the cat’s name? I shall fund another tree for them. I will not tolerate this feline attitude.

I got home this evening to find two cards in the post.

The first is from Karen Lingel and shows various Californian scenes, all of which I have visited. She notes that California is drought-stricken at the moment. We’ve been having drought conditions too, although the situation here in Sydney has been relieved somewhat by a bout of cold, wet weather bringing some 150mm of rain over the past week.

The second card is from Iggy, with an image of a rather haughty French Angel fish which makes its abode in the wreck of the Balboa in the harbour at George Town.

Thank you both.

LOL, I’ve lived in CA for 4 + 17 years and I’ve never been to Yosemite! I think it is still on fire… possibly on fire again.

Got a card from minionkat - pretty ponies!

Yay! I got two postcards from JoseB! One was a lovely picture of a boat in tropical water - sign me up and yes, JoseB is quite the poet. The other was a gorgeous photo of tulips in Holland. Much appreciated!

My last card arrived yesterday – a fierce cheetah with gorgeous golden eyes who lives at the Paignton Zoo – from Teuton. Thanks, Teuton, I love me some kittehs. Cool oak tree stamp, too.

In looking over The Spreadsheet, I see that almost everyone has received all their cards. The exceptions are **Labtrash **and Atomic Mama, who, based on my experience, will get their cards from **Teuton **very shortly.

It looks like **Karen Lingel **, JoseB, and Algher are still expecting one more each. Those careds are traveling overseas so may be taking the scenic route.

Arrogance Ex Machina, minionkat, and Algher all played by the rules but one of their cohort did not. They should be watching their mailboxes for consolation cards. No, I’m not going to tell you from who!

My co-conspirator . . . I mean, my co-coordinator, Elendil’s Heir, and I have asked **Skald **to send a swarm of flaming bees to purplehorseshoes’ house. No word from him yet; I guess even CEOs of Evil Organizations go on vacation once in a while.

Keep sending those updates (and corrections)!

My last card also arrived yesterday from Teuton

A lovely zebra, also from the Paignton Zoo

All three of mine have been received, and I’ve gotten all three (four - bonus card from jayrey) sent to me.

Home from travels. My total cards:

The Finland Line from Arrogance Ex Machina
The Year of the Horse from MinionKat
And Stardust from Salem’s Riverfront Carousel from jayrey!

Cheers,

-Algher

OK - so someone is having some fun out there. Please add two cards to my list:

The Outer Banks of North Carolina from Elendil’s Heir
An artistic card from http://www.flametreepublishing.com thanks to purple horseshoe.

I’m glad!
