The Great Summer 2014 Postcard Exchange!

I got another pretty card from our lovely Grrlbrarian. It’s an totally amazing shot of the Cincinnati skyline. Also, I received my last one, the most beautiful picture of Ireland. It only had this Doper’s name on it, so I’ll simply say thank you. I love it and will be putting it up on my postcard wall.

Thanks again for talking me into this round. It was much better to me than last. I appreciate both jayrey and EH for running these. For wrangling us all, you guys rock.

Thanks, faithfool. It’s been a lot of fun for me!

Still no word from **Purplehorseshoe **or minionkat? :frowning: Hmm, I will PM them with a reminder (and maybe another threat about Skald).

As for the rest of you, good job! It sound like people are getting some great cards. I have my bright red lobster one on my mantle. Quite the conversation starter.

A two-fer for me with cards arriving from **Cheez-Whia **and **Cunctator **yesterday.

**Cunctator ** sent a beautiful wide angle aerial view of Sydney Harbour complete with the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

**Cheez-Whia ** sent a card depicting the street art installations in Grand Junction, Colorado. I’m reminded of a business relationship I had with someone in that town who always left messages saying he was calling from B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L Grand Junction.

Got a card from brainstall today of an experimental locomotive called the Railway Zeppelin.

Cool.

That makes three received (well 10, because Baker sent a bunch!)

Today I got greetings from Wooden Shoe Heaven, via Lady Grey! (who made certain to inform me that she doesn’t actually own clogs. It’s ok, because I do, though they’re not wooden.) The card also has some dudes all dressed up (they’re from a Rembrandt) on it. Excellent!

All my postcards are now pinned to my bulletin board at work. Livens the place up!

All three of the postcards that I sent have now been received.

No need for Skald threats. I have a healthy respect for, if not fear of, Skald. I dare not incur his wrath. Mostly, I just don’t want him to go to the trouble of punishing me. My three merry cards are on their way. I posted them today after work.

It’s a standard touristy postcard, but a lovely view nonetheless.

I think my old school (St Aloysius’ College) is visible on the right hand (northern) shore of the harbour.

Got two more cards the other day … a 2nd one from jayrey with a lovely merry-go-round carousel horse, and one from labtrash depicting AALSMEER, HOLLAND, Centre de la Floriculture Europeenne  Which is appropriate because I’m of Dutch descent, tho labtrash isn’t as far as I can tell

(Can’t remember if I thanked jayrey for her 1st postcard of sights around the town of Salem, OR) – so extra thanks!

<3 the Postcard Exchange(s)

I received a postcard from Lady Grey yesterday, a nice image of a 30s-era Nederland Line advertising poster, touting voyages to “Ceylon-Straights-Java and though to Australia”. Thanks!

Glad you liked them! Funny they arrived on the same day; I sent them over a week apart.

:: pauses to put on evil hat ::

Doing a routine scan of Doper homes to see if any of you hosers have anything worth stealing, I have noticed that a good number of you have not yet sent forth the promised post cards. Per my contract with jayrey, I must remind you all that the cards are 'sposed to go out tomorrow. I’d hate to have to unleash the mongooses.

I got a card from brainstall today and that means I have had cards from three senders.

This card has a picture of a courageous lab work sitting inside a car in 1947, while a manufactured lightening bolt is sent down onto the car… The picture is titled “Weird Science” I hope the lab worker got a bonus!

I told you **Skald **was under contract!

Fortunately, I don’t think we will need his services. I have heard from Purplehorseshoe, who says she will be mailing her cards before the deadline.

Keep the updates coming. Some of the cards coming from, or traveling to, overseas destinations have yet to arrive. Looking forward to hearing about those.

Ahhh, this reminds me of a time I visited CERN, the particle accelerator on the Swiss/French border. The gift shop had a postcard (this was the 90’s) of a guy in an obvious science office (white boards with formulas on them, etc.). The guy had a spiky, punk-rock haircut, was standing on his desk, playing air guitar. The caption of the postcard was simply “Theoretical Physicist.”

I laughed and laughed, promptly bought the postcard and sent it to a fellow (experimental) physicist. I didn’t think to buy myself one to keep.

We need to get someone from Geneva in on these postcard exchanges…

I got three cards in the mail yesterday, so I think I received all my cards from this round.

Two from Lsura, one with a view of the Library of Congress in Washington, in which it must indeed be lovely to dwell sometime, and one with a view of a kudzu vine landscape. I thought this one came from some exotic country, kudzu sounds so, well, non-English  Freaky stuff though, covering everything… Thanks for both cards!

I also got a ‘Love from Texas’ card from phouka, with bulls and some Texan buildings which look impressive. And a greeting in Dutch, how cool. Dankjewel!

I received another postcard yesterday, this one from Karen Lingel featuring the beauty of California.

I’ve now received cards from all three senders. Hopefully those I sent will start arriving soon. I’m sure the postman here works on island time, but should have handed them off by now.

Had a busy day at work yesterday, along with feeling under the weather, so didn’t get here to say that all postcards should be in the mail by the end of the day Friday (yes, Purplehorseshoe, I’m lookin’ at you!).

I’ll be back later today with a update on who has received from whom. Have a good day!

My package of cards from **Baker **arrived Friday!

Not sure I will have the opportunity to use the recipe for deep-fried rattlesnake, which is just as well because I like snakes an the one on the card is very pretty. Big Brutus is cool, too, as well as all the other cards that came in the envelope. Thanks!

Slow response due to arrival of a puppy last week…

Aye yi yi I hope I don’t get any snake postcards…
