Well, I really inordinately enjoyed it! Not only the “elaborate” surprise, but also sharing a part of German culture that must definitely be widespread, and also because those postcards must be part of a series that people send to German children one at a time to build their anticipation. Everything about those postcards is so nice and sweet and we really need more of that in the world. Thanks to all the German Conspirators!
PS I watched a little from one of the episodes from the website – I saw one of the Maus cartoons and it was followed by Shaun the Sheep (or Shaun the Shaus or whatever he is called in German.)
I’m very glad that you all enjoyed our little plotting :D. And I’m, well, proud that we’re contributing to, pheeew, here comes one of those BIG German words, Völkerverständigung (understanding among nations? I didn’t find a better translation. maybe rather consent among nations). I really love the postcard exchange (and the Dope as such) for that!
I received another postcard from BeeGee. It’s “A favorite recipe of President and Lady Bird Johnson, Pedernales River Chili” from LBJ’s Library. I love the decorations and especially the 3 cent Red Cross Stamp. Thank you!
Today I received a lovely postcard from Arrogance Ex Machina in Finland, a Therese Bast illustration of a young girl riding a swan. The colors are pastel yet vibrant, and the texture is creamy and chalky and decidedly un-postcard-like in the best way! Thank you so much for the card AND for the reminder that those in other parts of the world are experiencing NINETEEN AND A HALF hours of sunlight each day right now. So cool!
I definitely sent all three of my postcards on 7/2, so for those on my list who haven’t seen them yet, hang tight! It’s amazing how postcards take so much longer to arrive than first class mail.
Today The Butterfly’s Ghost received a surprise card from Helena330 which she shared via phone with me and mkl12. She thanks us and especially me for the “Total Maus Experience” (band name! :D). We’re all glad to have been at your service, it was a true pleasure, especially to see all the sweet and warm receptions by those who have been Maus’d :), but please don’t forget our new conspirator in training, mkl12.
So thank you very much **Helena330 **for this surprise! Only one question: what is the building at the background on your card? It looks like a big British fortress, certainly not like something I’d expect to see in Tacoma.
Nice to hear that at least one my cards has finally gotten to its destination. Thought the hop over the Pond would be a bit faster for postcards but guess not. We are down to only 18.5 hour long days by now.
Also got my first postcard now from Lsura - NYC’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. Thanks!
I had a friend who lived in Fairbanks, Alaska for several years. She rather like it, but she said the pay back came six months later, during winter, when the sun crept low over the horizon for about four hours a day.
What would vampires in the far north do under those conditions. Winter would be great but summer would keep you undercover for a long time.
Two more postcards from Lsura - sparkly picture of Atlanta and less-sparkly picture of Stone Mountain. Had never heard of the latter before, looks like a curious monument.
I too got a card from Karen Lingel as thanks for the Maus surprise! Thank you so very much!
When I bought the card for Elendil’s Heir (no, we haven’t forgotten you! ) I got to chat with the sales lady at the Maus-Shop (yes, it’s a shop for all things Maus! ) and told her about our “conspiracy”. I told her how you, Karen, said everything about the cards was sweet. She absolutely loved the story, it made her visibly happy.
And this in turn makes me happy - we startet this as a small surprise for the other dopers in the exchange and the response was so overwhelmingly positive! It was so much fun seeing it all come together: the slight confusion at first, than the first “I think I have an idea where this is going” post and finally the wonderful phrase “to achieve Total Maus”!
And now we all have received surprise “thank you cards” from other dopers! That’s wonderful - and that’s what I love the SDMB for!
