I received both my cards from @Chad_Sudan and @Karen_Lingel ! ![]()
Chad sent me a lovely oversized card of Yosemite (love the superflous stamps from Poland, Romania and Hungary!!!
) and Karen sent me a beautiful card of the Great Smokey Mountains and a picture of bear cubs! ![]()
Thank to both of you! ![]()
I’ll expand a bit on this so… spoiler alert for those who haven’t yet received their cards from us! ![]()
We got “message in the bottle” bottles, instead of normal postcards. According to the manufacturer they were supposed to go through German Post like normal postcards/letters. Unfortunately I received all three of mine back a day later! ![]()
So I put them in envelopes (together with a normal postcard this time
), sent them out again and received ONE of the three back yet again!
I figured, as the others had gone through I’d try yet again and this time, lo and behold, I did not receive it back!
I’m happy that one has already arrived and I hope the other two also make it to their recipients!
I hope mine gets there soon.
??? Um, the Great Smokey Mountains/bears postcard isn’t from me. I’ve never been there and am only vaguely aware of where they are. ???
I think that was mine.
Sorry!!! I was thinking of Karen_Lingel because it was her card that came back twice and I got mixed up! ![]()
Glad you like🐻
Walked out this morning
Don’t believe what I saw
A SDMB postcard there
Washed up on the shore ![]()
Talk about raising the bar for the next exchange!

That’s so damn cool @blondebear, I’d never expected a setting like this, and I didn’t know that your place is near the coast. I’m bad at geography…Thanks a lot, you brought joy to @The_Butterfly_s_Ghost and me.
Heh…well, to be honest, I live about 35 minutes from the coast. I got the idea of taking a pic of the bottle washed up on the shore last night. So, this morning I drove over to Aptos for the “photo session” at Seacliff State Beach.
Great, just great. I hope you had some necessities to do on the way or at least a pleasant morning to make the trip worthwhile. (thus speaks the German engineer who never drives a kilometer without some cause
)
VERY clever, blondebear - thanks for sharing with us!
I enjoyed this so much Im signing up for any future ones.
Two cards from @JaneDoe42 arrived today (in the mailbox, not washed up on the shore in a pile of seaweed
). One is an aerial view of the Hoover Dam from the west with the bypass bridge in the foreground. The second card is an overlook of the Grand Canyon. Thank you!
I have been reliably informed that three postcards arrived for me at home today, and I saw them via video chat!
A postcard of a US Navy ship from @Karen_Lingel, a card featuring Zion National Park from @SuntanLotion, and a message in a bottle (clever!) from @The_Butterfly_s_Ghost! Very impressive. Thanks to all of you!
Today I received my very clever message in a bottle which a note explaining why a ship of the Biggefleet fleet was included. Well, ok, it was a cut out glued onto a small clothespin, but it was very cute nonetheless!
Thanks so much EinsteinsHund!
It arrived! It arrived! Today I got my message-in-a-bottle from @The_Butterfly_s_Ghost, filled with not only a message, but an origami sailor’s hat, two decorated clothespins, and sand and jewels! Included in the envelope is a postcard with a Warhol-like picture of beers.
I really appreciate all the trouble you went to in order to get this super-cool “postcard” to me! (The Rhine plan might have been faster and less trouble!) I love it! Thanks, @The_Butterfly_s_Ghost !
Well I’ve been away for almost two weeks on family business and on my return there is a stack of paper to go through.
Amongst there is a postcard from @silenus featuring Ron Cobb’s concept sketch for the Duros. Think I’ve seen that slightly disturbing image in a mirror somewhere. Thank you!
Have a recollection of seeing Ron’s work in some alterative way back in the 80s in my uni days.
Pretty good chance there will be others, just need to find them.
And the postman delivers again.
As it turns out a theme pair from @silenus. This one is Ron Cobb’s concept sketch of a Gotal.
Excellent! Thank you!
Oh ye of little faith, repent!
In yesterday’s mail arrived not one, but two postcards from the US.
From Seattle courtesy of @needscoffee (who should not apply for a job with the Seattle Tourism Board
) a 3D animation of a black cat from the catalogue of Kartebvertrieb replete with on theme stamps. Very good.
And to complete my set the most esteemable @Karen_Lingel delivers with a card from the USS Hornet which is bigger than the usual bathtime toy!
Thank you one and all!
