Seconded. One of my favorite books. Great atmosphere, wonderful characters, thrills and chills. Check it out - you won’t be disappointed!
Thirded. Fevre Dream is worth re-reading.
Kim Newman’s Anno Dracula series is not as fine, but lots of fun–in a rather grim way. In the first volume, we see a Great Britain where Van Helsing, *et al., * failed. The Count has turned & married Queen Victoria–& vampires have come out of hiding. The characters include other literary vampires: a real “Great Vampire Roundup.” And many literary & historical characters appear who may or may not have made the change. Yet.
There are two sequels and more to come.
Count von Krolock from The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck aka “Dance of the Vampires.”
I never would have thought that I could learn so much about the Mississippi riverboat culture of that time from a vampire book.
Forrest J. Ackerman says that he coined that as a pseudonym. He was Ed Wood’s literary agent, and Ed had a plan for a film titled that, and it was to star, of course, Bela Lugosi.
From the movie ED WOOD- Ed to Potential Producer…
“I’ve got a script titled ‘Doctor Acula’!”
“‘Doctor Acula’? I don’t get it.”
“‘Doctorrrrrrr-Acula’!”
“Ohhh, I get it… I don’t like it.”

To elaborate on Strahd Von Zarovich, he’s from the Ravenloft campaign setting, and here are just a few of his “friends” from the same setting:
Lyssa Von Zarovich
Jander Sunstar (vampire elf)
Axrock (vampire dwarf)
Duke Nharov Gundar
Lady Adeline (another vampire elf)
Baron Urik von Kharkov (a panther turned into a human turned into a vampire. Don’t ask).
Ladislav Mircea (a diseased vampire)
Dr. Dominiani a.k.a Daclaud Heinfroth (Vampire psychologist who feeds on cerebral fluid)
Tavelia (vampire priestess of a false religion)
Lady Kazandra (head of a vampire secret police force)
Baron Metus
That’s just off the top of my head… there are dozens. I’m sure White Wolf’s Vampire RPG has dozens more.
a few more Ravenloft vamps after searching the Ravenloft catalog at kargatane.com (some of these are pretty obscure, even for Ravenloft).
Meilee Markuza (child vamp)
Erasmus Van Richten
Moosha
Desmiand L’Strange (no relation to Bellatrix)
Alexi (gypsy vamp)
Runold
Jack Bequick
Muger D’Ajust
Haroln
Leo Dilisnya
Kas the Destroyer (originally from Greyhawk)
Kristobel del Diego
Crave
Stigel
Lady Heather Shadowbrooke (vampire druid)
Lynette
Rivalin ApTosh
Sasha Ivliskova
Aquinus
Marie Castries
Jarmin
Batlas
Jonat Labras
Countess Abalia
The Spider
Kyrie
Xaven
Sister Evangeline
Master Bralkain
Helga
So Archduke Chocula doesn’t count?
Check my post.
How could we forget Vampirella and Count Yorga!
Hannibal King. He was a vampire in the Nightstalkers series, not the damn movies.
Vicki Nelson (Also from Tanya Huff’s Blood series)
Drat. I can’t remember the name of the vampire in Suzy McKee Charnas’ The Vampire Tapestry.
One of the original movie vamps, Nosferatu.
While I’ve never completed an Ann Rice book, off the top of my head I can name Lestat, Louis, and Claudia.
(all from the list of “I can’t believe they haven’t been mentioned yet.”)

This is a whoosh, right?
If not, look at the OP.
Not a whoosh, lack of sleep; going on none for 29 hours. (don’t ask.) I’ll be leaving the Dope now. :smack:
