The "Halloween" movies and the satanic-cult backstory

I think I’ve seen all the Halloween movies by now (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halloween_(movie)). In one of them – I think it was Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, there was a hint at the beginning of Michael being protected by some kind of mysterious, implicitly satanic cult. Where did that plot element come from? Where did it go? I don’t think we ever saw it again. (Come to think of it, it could have been used to retcon an actual linkage between the Michael-less Halloween III and the rest of the series.)

The word SAMHAIN was written (presumably by Michael) on a chalkboard in H2. There was some balloon juice outta The World’s Least Effective Psychiatrist about the pagan festival and a tie-in to Michael but it’s been so long since I’ve seen H2 that I don’t recall the specifics of the speech or what implications it may have had for the rest of the series.

Nobody knows any more than that?

I haven’t seen Halloween IV (or anything after it) but it sounds like a retroactive attempt to make Halloween III appear to have some connection to the rest of the franchise.

(That was the one where a mysterious cult used a purloined monolith from Stonehenge to make quasi-electronic chips for rubber Halloween masks that turned children’s heads into rivers of creepy-crawly things when exposed to the a carrier signal in a TV commercial. No Michael Myers in evidence. Class.)

Poor Donald Pleasance…

Per the wiki article on H3, there’s speculation that there was never any intention for H3 to be a “Halloween” movie. The “Halloween 3” was tacked onto the title in the hope of helping a dog of a movie make money on its opening weekend off loyal fans of the first two Halloween movies. Nice thing to do to a fanbase, if it’s true.

The Halloween movies have two distinct continuity tracks anyway. In H4 Laurie Strode is dead but she’s alive and well by the time of H20 (produced by a different company). I haven’t seen H20 but apparently there’s something about how Laurie is living under an assumed name, but it makes little sense that she’d go into hiding and leave her daughter (Michael’s target in the two previous films) behind.

Halloween 2 featured the most perfect tits ever captured on film. That nurse in the hottub scene before she got boiled. Damn those were some sweet bags.

Carry on.

A mysterious evil cult somehow hoodooed the last sentence of the OP into invisibility. Weeeeird.
