Shopping today, I ran across an Ultra 4K display of movies. Oh, I thought, I can play these now 'cuz I have a new Xbox.
I found one titled Halloween. It is the original? Is it Rob Zombie’s recreation? I flipped it over to read the blurb. Something about Jamie Lee Curtis returns to the role…
O…kay?
I left it there because I wasn’t sure what I’d be getting. Now, I’ve looked it up on Wikipedia, and it seems to be a direct sequel to the original Halloween, but one that retcons away all of the other sequels.
So Halloween is a sequel to Halloween.
Weird.
So have you seen it? Is it any good? I like the original and many of the sequels (but not that godawful Season of the Witch clusterfuck), and I don’t mind the “erasing” of the other sequels as long as this one is a direct continuation of the original.
It was pretty good. And yes, they named it the same as the first one even though it was a direct sequel to the very first movie, a new Halloween II. She is no longer his sister and none of Halloween 2 or any other sequels ever happened.
It wasn’t amazing, but it was good. It also has a sequel that is brand new called Halloween Kills.
Oh, so Kills is on this branch of the franchise. I’ve been seeing it advertised, and the official release date is October 15th. Halloween Ends should be out about this time next year, also on this branch.
Thanks!
The 2018 Halloween is perfecly watchable, and having middle-aged “Laurie Strode” in it made the experience definitely more interesting.
Huh, I didn’t realize a third part is on the way. I still don’t get why it didn’t pick up after Halloween 2(1981). That felt like a natural and “real” sequel. Could have continued from there with Michael coming back decades after they thought they blew him up.
Anyway, they took that movie out and even canceled Michael being her brother, which was only established in Halloween II.
Let’s not forget she came back for Halloween: H20, another attempt to make a true sequel with Jamie Lee Curtis.
I like final girls who aren’t some buxom blond bombshell. Or even girls for that matter. So I think I’m going to enjoy Halloween 2018.
I’m also looking forward to the new Scream, evidently just named Scream, even though it serves as a direct sequel to part 4. An almost-50-years-old Neve Campbell isn’t something I’d change the channel on.
I think they permanently screwed the pooch on that branch with Resurrection.
Wow, she did that as well? I really haven’t seen past Halloween IV. I saw bits of V on tv once. Nothing else.
Okay, so I’ve finally seen Halloween (2018). It was good enough. I didn’t love it.
A few days later, my copy of Halloween Kills arrived. So I watched it. Somehow, it improved its predecessor. So while I still don’t love the 2018 movie, I really like it now. Kills is also quite good in its own right.
Haven’t seen Halloween Ends yet. I’ll probably pick it up next year.
There’s a lot to like about Kills. So much good talent, including the return of some original actors like an all grown up little Lindsey (Kyle Richards), Doctor Loomis’s assistant Marion (Nancy Stephens), and former sheriff Brackett (Charles Cyphers).
Throughout both, I appreciated the crazy grandmother / dubious daughter / mind of her own granddaughter dynamic.
And ohmuhgawd, so much blood.
