The Hearthstone Thread

I am also playing Secret Paladin, and I managed to draw a Tirion but I don’t have Dr. Boom yet. Working on the dust to craft him. Which archetype are you using? There are several variations, some center around using Quartermaster (don’t have him) and some center around Uldaman (I have him but not some of the other cards he combos with).

I can consistently get to rank 11 with 2 stars, but then seem to get regularly punished back to 13 (on really bad days, even lower…that week between Christmas and New Year’s I got pounded all the way back down to 17)

I do make mistakes and get punished for them, but mostly I get bad starting hands and can’t recover…BOM, Tirion, Belcher…how do you play when you get an opening hand like that?

Huh, I’m not running Quartermaster OR Uldaman in my secret paladin deck. What the hell am I using? I need to look at it later on.

I’m pretty much using this deck. I sometime swap in chows for the secretkeepers (I almost never get a monster secret keeper) or swap out a redemption/repentance for a 2nd keeper of uldaman.

I haven’t found a good way to work in taunts though I’ve been looking swapping out at the consecration; when it’s good, it’s really, really good but in most games is almost a dead draw.

Yeah, sometimes you mulligan for early drops and get nothing put late game legendaries. That’s Hearthstone for you.

I hit a 13 game lose streak yesterday. Ugh.

Got an Al Akir the Wind Lord. I don’t think I’ll ever use him, but I hate trading legendaries for epics. But I probably should, I could find plenty of epics I’d use more.

I think he’s a pretty decent card, especially if you have him and a rockbiter in your hand on turn nine. That’s 12 damage to the face or two dead minions.

I’ve yet to disenchant any legendaries, though, even ones that I know I’ll never use. It’s so stupid. I even have a golden gladiator’s longbow that I could trade for any other epic (I have two regular ones) and I haven’t done that either.

I have a serious problem and somebody should look inside my head.

Nah, I’m the same. I still even have a “the Beast” hanging around.

Very very long ago, I did dust Gruul. And last year, I did dust a Golden Thermaplugg, I think to make Malygos or something. No regrets for those two, though.

I still have the Millhouse Manastorm that was the first legendary I ever opened.

We should have a competition. Which is the most useless legendary that you’ve not dusted (yet)

I don’t have all that many non adventure legendaries, but probably The Beast.

i have Hemet. i am free to play.

I could never bring myself to dust a legendary (that wasn’t a duplicate)! Even if it’s a “bad” one, you just never know how things will change, and what if someday you really want it? (Even if just for a Tavern Brawl with weird rules)

So I pulled a Malygos and realized I had just about all the cards for the Malylock deck. So I pretty much netdecked the one on TempoStorm… And proceeded to lose every single game. I never got the combo together, and I can’t figure out how this deck ticks. It’s supposedly a viable high-level deck, but I can’t get it to work at all. Anyone know anything about the archetype?

I have not watched it, but Trump made a video about how to play Malygos Warlock here. That might help you.

How are you losing? Not enough damage? Unable to last until you get your combo off?

Without seeing you play, the first instinct I have is that you are probably not getting enough value out of your board clears. It’s a very common first mistake when playing a control type deck - not taking face damage to set up for a bigger clear later.

Mostly I just die before I pull the combo pieces together. Which is not surprising, given that I’m looking for two specific legendaries plus a bunch of burn spells. Maybe I should run a Twisting Nether or something. My removal just feels way too weak - 3 AOE is not exactly great, and most of my good creatures are kinda… small. Like, Imp-Gang Chief is great and all, but he’s still a 2/4. And once I lose the board off of a Consecrate or Holy Nova, it’s super hard to come back.

Ok, so just to confirm, are you using this list? Tempo Storm

I’m pretty sure I’ve faced this deck on the ladder before. The game plan is basically stall until you can discount your combo and kill with Maly + burn. This version seems to run only 3 burn spells, so I assume you’ll have to save all of them for the final burst.

The question is how you stall. Basically, this looks to be more like a minion based start - just drop your chows, and start tapping so that you can drop twilight guardians on curve. Prioritise clearing the board over going face if you don’t have AOE in hand, you can make slightly disadvantageous trades.

You should never be losing your board to a consecrate or other AOE - you don’t run enough minions for that to happen. Never play a minion just for the sake of it (unless your hand is too big).
Your win condition is not controlling the board and going face - your win condition is stalling until you can hit your Maly combo. Putting another minion on the board “just for the heck of it, I have mana” just opens you up to AOE.

Actually, you should never have to rely on AOE either - you run enough strong early game minions that they should never be able to flood the board unless they’re flooding with small minions, in which case hellfire should take care of most of them.

I remember quite a few of my lost games came down to, “Oh, he’s got a Muster for Battle I can’t clear out fast enough” “Oh, I can’t kill that freakin’ Deathlord and it’s ripping me up”, “Oh, there’s a really big taunt dude that I can’t hang with”, and in one particularly gross case, “Wait, how the fuck did a Priest just drop 24 face damage from his hand in one turn?” (Velen + Thanos + double Mind Blast after a Thaurissian. Fucking gross.) I dunno, maybe I just had bad luck. I’ll try building again, this time with less commitment to the board, and see if I can’t figure it out. Maybe I’m just trying to play it too much like Dragon Priest, and that’s why it isn’t working. Very different playstyles.

Also I think I was running a few replacements… Imp Gang Bosses instead of Kezan Mystic and Earthen Ring Farseer, and I know I had at least one Implosion in there.

Maybe “gross” means something different in card games but how is this any different than what you’re trying to do with Maly?

Look, when I do a OTK it’s through skillful manipulation of the cards, mechanics, and overall premise of the game.

When somebody does it to me, it’s because they’re exploiting broken loopholes in a broken game using a broken tryhard netdeck and you know what FUCK them.
