“Well played” doesn’t bother me very much. I get much more annoyed at people who spam “sorry” over and over again when routine things happen. OH MY BOARD CLEAR WIPED OUT 3 MINIONS? SORRY. SORRY. SORRY. SORRY.
What’s actually dickish behavior that 95% of the people game do is not finishing the game with obvious lethal. You’ve got 3 health, he’s got 5 minions on the board. Does he just hit you with his minion that does 5 damage? Nope, he puts 2 new minions on the board, buffs 2 of them, pointlessly trades a few of his minions to clear your board, then finally after a minute ends you. Obviously you can concede at any time, but it’s kind of remarkable that in my estimation over 90% of people are dicks in this way.
I agree. But I also hate the people who, when faced with a next round lethal, don’t concede right away or pass to let you finish, but rather play the rest of their cards, buff their guys, and waste my time. It’s the “yeah, we both know you’re going to win no matter what, but look at my pretty, pretty cards”.
Don’t worry, I just crafted him so the nerf is sure to be coming in the next month or so.
I try to keep in mind that there are daily quests centered around playing minions with certain costs, or playing spells, etc, and that they may just be trying to get in one more requirement toward fulfilling those quests.
I hate that. Depending on my mood I’ll either concede when they start doing it or start spamming them back like say a greeting or thank you after I take out a minion.
If someone does something spectacular like a really cool combo I wouldn’t have thought of, I’m still a noob this is my first CCG, then I’ll give them a Well Played.
Yeah I don’t really mind because of this. I don’t arena so the only way to get gold is dailies.
I agree. I do it in close matches as a friendly gesture. Either on my turn when I have lethal guaranteed or once my opponent kills me. It’s like “gg” after most other games. I’m less inclined towards it in blow outs.
Daily quests may require throwing down some of those cards or killing the minions, so I don’t mind unless they’re not doing it quickly. You can do meaningless dicking around, but do it quickly.
This is a good guide. I do throw the occasional “well played” out when someone plays the RNG particularly skillfully (eg. gets Millhouse Manastorm out of breaking open a Piloted Shredder), but that is actually kind of dickish.
Well I just had my best game ever and I think I’m getting my head around synergizing cards. I mostly play mage since that’s what I learned through the tutorial and early playing. I only do other classes for the dailies and I’m starting to understand those.
I mostly just play tavern brawls and this was a brawl game. I built the deck similar to my secret mage deck which seems ok. Well my intitial card offering had Rhonin and Arcane Missiles. Sweet says I. So turn 1 I play Rhonin to get him dead and to get the other 3 Arcane Missles asap. On draw two I get Antonidas. Then I see my startegy. Turn 3 they kill Rhonin. Awww yes. Turn 5 I play Antonidas and the four AMs. The first one clears their board and the other 3 go to face, 9 damage. Turn 8 I play both Sorcerers Apprentices and 3 fireballs, all 18 damage to face. They die. I know it’s mostly the RNG gods but that game was perfect.
I forgot to mention that this thread and watching Trump videos about how to play different types of decks is really helping me out with synergizing, instead of me just going “Oooo this card looks cool.”
So, thank you guys for that.
It ain’t meaningless dicking around until you’re throwing multiple fireballs in your own face just because you can. ![]()
Seriously though, if you don’t dick around after a Millhouse Manastorm drop, then you are simply going to end up disappointing your opponent. The people playing that card know exactly why they’re doing it. :V
That sounds pretty amazing, not gonna lie. Here’s another fun one: turn one Alexstraza, turn two Iron Juggernaut. Ouch.
Am I the only one who thinks the current tavern brawl is even more of a broken mess than usual?
I got my win fast and got out (used druid with random value dudes and things that gave my team +1/+1 (like mukla’s champion etc.)). Looks like it’s kind of pay-to-win since the key seems to be huge deathrattle/battlecry effects, which are mostly on legendaries and epics.
Does everyone get the same quest? Like, for me, today’s quest is 5 wins with Priest or Warlock. Is that everyone’s quest, or is it random? I’ve always assumed it was the same; often I would see lots of legendary loaded priests when my quest was priest driven, but that could easily be confirmation bias.
I like this weeks brawl. I agree that it’s broken, but I like break-it-better games.
My dailies have been for classes I rarely play, so I played several as warrior or priest and I’m something like 5-1 overall. I disagree that it’s pay-to-win (though it’s nice to have some legendary options). Cards that give +1/+1 are good. Mukla’s Champion has been in the rotation, as has Stormwind Champion, but Questing Adventurer has also been the MVP of a couple games. I’ve built decks for control, so warrior plays lots of “1 damage to all creatures” and weapons while priest plays lots of +health and uses the hero power to keep my board alive.
I am pretty sure it’s random. Did you know you can “re-roll” your quest (go into the quest display and click the X in the corner of the quest)? It will give you a new random one. I always do this if my quests are the 40 gold ones, because I prefer getting the 60/100/free pack quests more.
I also like this week’s brawl. I’ve been playing Druid - Swipe is awesome as usual; Power of the Wild is huge, and Ancient of Lore is great.
My favorite start was turn 1 - Chromaggus, Coin, Ancient of Lore, draw Dr. Boom and Emperor Thaurissan (both x2).
Although a lot of people play the same basic cards (Dr. Boom, Creeper, Runts), I keep coming up against new synergies being played against me, ones I hadn’t thought of. It’s a fun way to fill the daily quests, especially in classes I don’t usually play.
I wonder if a heavy Divine Shield / Blood Knight deck would work - would Blood Knight revert back to 1/1 when played after eating Divine Shields?
No, only the “base” stats are affected. Any buffs on top of that stick, so cards like Frostwolf Warlord are especially strong. And if you want some real OPness, play your Brann Bronzebeard right before him.
Yeah, that’s precisely why this brawl is shit. I can name two turn 2 kills off the top of my head - Alexstraza into Malygos, Soulfire, Coin, Soulfire and Onyxia into Alexstraza, Cenarius - and what they have in common is that they are entirely Legendary-based strategies.
Well since I’m still a noob and I am sticking to the mage deck for now I spend all of my gold from dailies on packs to hopefully get more mage cards and then I dust most anything else* to get more mage cards. It’s taken a while but I have the entire mage deck except Flame Leviathan and I’m going for it just to be a completist. After I get it I’m going to move on to a new class and work my way through that. I don’t play arena or the meta-game so it’s more about getting the cards and playing the tavern brawls to complete the dailies for me.
