This weeks brawl is taking forever what with everyone have to chose a card every turn and waiting on the animations of such. Too many turns are going down to the rope.
The other problem with it is that both players have far too much access to answers when they’re losing. The game is a lot slower when potentially game-winning plays reliably get nuked out of existence.
Woo! 12-win arena! I honestly didn’t think this one would go past 5 or 6.
All-gold reward and you got to crush some poor Warlock’s 12 win dream
Not bad at all.
I believe the Warlock game was the one where I did 9 damage in one turn with a Mana Addict: Mukla -> coin -> banana -> banana -> face. Three face pings later, move on to the next level.
Possibly, though if you are under the misconception that you only face people with the exact same record as you, that’s not the case (not sure where this came from but some streamers seem to believe it also). I’ve faced the same opponent twice in a row before, which of course means it wouldn’t have been possible for us to have the same win/loss record after I just beat him.
Possible, sure. But having the same record is the most likely.
I’ve played the same person back to back at high wins before a couple of times, but if you’re in high wins (8+ say) and you add someone after a game to chat you’ll find they’re almost always at the same record.
Well I just did a thing in the tavernbrawl.
On turn two I played Millhouse Manastorm against a warrior thinking, “Hahaha stupid warriors don’t have spells. I r gonna win easily.”
Then they started playing and kept playing Raven Idols. And I was like, “WTF mate? This bloke is cheating.” And then I realized what I had done and I just cenceded out of shame.
“Who let HIM in here?”
Trade Prince Gallywyx is also fun in this brawl.
So I’ve just started playing and I’ve got all the characters over level 10, and I’ve played the first free arena game, and have been playing tavern brawl–it’s a lot easier when your opponent has a random deck as well. Also ranked is a lot easier than casual, since the other players at my level all suck too, with casual I was getting creamed by players with uber cards.
So I’ve got 850 gold now, what’s the best way to spend it for a new player? Basic card packs?
Well… I just found out the hard way that hobgoblin and stand against darkness don’t synergize… God damn it I can’t seem to win anything in arena lately . I used to average like 7-8 wins but now I struggle to get higher than 4 .
Pretty much, yes. There are a lot of very good cards in the Basic packs, and they are all cards that you will always be able to play in Standard format (ie. they will never rotate out and then only be playable in the free-for-all of Wild. New players don’t want to go near Wild).
After you start getting all the relevant Rare cards from Basic you can look to other sources. If there’s a particular deck you want to try out that needs cards from an Adventure you can buy that, or you can start buying Old Gods packs (OG packs will stay in Standard longest). If you liked Arena (and can average ~3+ wins per run) that’s a cheaper source of Old Gods (and occasionally bonus TGT or Basic) packs. Arena is not to everyone’s taste, but the good news is that your card collection doesn’t matter, only your luck and skill.
And if you are looking to spend real money at some point, Adventures are generally your best value (And there’s going to be a new Adventure announced soonish). I play semi-free to play; I don’t buy packs or Arena runs with money, but I’ve bought every Adventure so far with cash. That’s been more than enough to let me play a wide variety of decks, and at this point only a crazy-expensive Control Warrior deck may be out of my reach (I haven’t actually checked recently how much dust I would need for Wallet Warrior).
I found a pretty good strategy in the Tavern Brawl that’s ending in a few hours.
Turn 7: Call of the Wild.
Turn 8: Call of the Wild.
Turn 9: Call of the Wild.
Turn 10: Call of the Wild.
Turn 11: Call of the Wild.
Throw enough Huffers at the problem and even a Control Warrior will curl up and die.
New adventure is going to be announced tonight (July 28) at 11PM PDT on Blizzard’s twitch channel.
Late night announcement eh? All the speculation and hints have pointed toward it being Karazhan-themed (which, if you haven’t played WoW, is by far the coolest dungeon in the game). Guess we’ll find out soon.
Yep, it’s One Night in Karazhan. Looks like it’ll be fun.
Anyone care to offer a little backstory on the lore behind Karazhan? I already heard someone on Hearthpwn whining about how they’re destroying it, so it should be good to know what they’re spoufing.
Didn’t you watch Rigamaroles link? It’s a disco club you go to dance and eat and party. A place of funky magical phenomena. Where anything goes for one night.
In WoW, Karazhan is a big haunted castle last occupied by the wizard Medivh. It’s full of ghosts, spirits, bone dragons, and the last boss is the demon Prince Malchezaar. For the HS version, apparently they are going for an earlier period in the castle’s history when at least some of the residents were alive (including, of course, Medivh himself).
Even though we were expecting Karazhan, I don’t think any of us who are familiar with it saw the “disco party” angle coming. I love it though.
Also, one of the funnest encounters in that dungeon (to me, anyway) was the Chess Event, where all the players in a raid would control various chess pieces until you killed the enemy king. Hopefully they’ll come up with a neat way of incorporating that as a HS boss.
