The Hearthstone Thread

I’ve never done Karazhan or the chess event so I went looking and found this youy tube that has the chess event and the boss fight in a 10 minute vidja.

So, mid-range Hunter has been getting pretty prominent and it’s going to be totally out of control now with Kindly Grandmother thrown in the mix (honestly, this card is sickening). Barnes is going to be a fantastic legendary for some decks.

But what’s really going to be sickening is the Mage Arena buff from Firelands Portal, especially since it’s a common card as well as a class card. It needs to be at least rare. Although I don’t think it’s good for constructed, as Kripp noted there is going to be at least one of these in every Mage Arena deck, and some will get multiples. Big removal plus a summon that could be as strong as a 7/8 taunt. Oy vey.

We’re definitely looking at some big power creep coming up.

This one went 10 wins, but was probably the strongest-feeling deck I’ve ever drafted - tons of weapons to control early and six giant taunts to finish the game

Did you get a legendary out of the pack? I thought I saw a toast with one very shortly after the 10 win toast.

Nah, I decided to blow some cash on packs afterwards; got the hunter legendary from whispers.

Golden Warlock!

My first golden hero and I’ve been playing on and off since Aug '14 (it’s too bad Arena wins don’t count). It helps that Zoo was always an easy way to finish quests.

Next up is working on wins towards Druid/Mage/Paladin which are all in the mid-high 300s while we wait for Karazhan.

This tavern brawl is weird.

You fight Stormwind City. It starts with 1HP and gets more health as you attack it equal to the attack points you just smacked it with.

The minions it draws from it’s Hero Power have AP/HP equal to the turn you are on. So on turn 7 it draws a 0/7 taunt or a 7/7.

I lost the first game after turn 10 and it went straight down hill from there as it also had a 8/8 and 9/9 on the board. I was holding my own until t9.

When you lose you win and Stormwind blows up and it gives you the victory.

I came here to see WTF was I supposed to but you lazy lazies hadn’t chimed in yet. So I tried a theory. I played another game and never played a card. Insta-passed on my turn. On t6 I lost and won. Getting another credit for winning the round.

It seems like this is a “we’re giving you the chance to knock out all your dailies and get easy gold” week. I’m not going to complain.

It does show a scoreboard at the end of the game with how much damage you did and how many minions you killed but I can’t find where that is being tracked. So I guess it’s just bragging rights for how much damage you can do in a single game.

I guess you could also play it to calibrate your decks.
Also I got Tirion Fordring out of my Tavern pack. I think that’s my best one yet not that I really keep track.

Well, I just knocked out my 3 dailies. That was a quick 150 gold. I guess I’ll go try to see how much damage I can do.

Yeah, it’s mostly a beat-your-top-score-and-brag-to-your-friends deal. You always win, so you can knock out quests, but the wins don’t count toward your 3 wins for 10 gold deal.

First time I played I wasn’t sure what they deal was, so I build a spell heavy mage deck and did 30 some odd damage. Then I decided to try to do a brann-c’thun-rogue deck, and only managed to eke out 4 damage.

36 damage, 12 turns, 19 minions killed with a midrange Hunter. Woulda gone higher if he hadn’t Mind Visioned my Skillcall. I’m sure someone will figure out the best possible deck that can get close to fatigue on it. Maybe a Rogue using Beneath the Grounds and Gadgetzan Auctioneer.

Looks like someone already figured it out; Kripp managed to do ~1.7 billion damage in the brawl (which actually insta-won the fight, so apparently Stormwind can be killed before your hero after all).

Also the reveal of the Medivh card is pretty interesting. Neutral weapon for everyone, and it’s a summoning stone. Unlike the Summoning Stone card though, which doesn’t get played because it attracts swift removal, there are fewer options out there for weapon removal. Just the two cards, and I don’t even have Harrison Jones yet. Looks like it might be time to craft him.

How did he do that? Is there a longer video showing more of the game? I looked at his twitch channel and there’s a longer video but it is of after the clip you linked. I’d like to see the whole game.

How did he get Cho so high in AP? I see he has Inner Fire and Divine Spirit but still.

Was it because of Cho and him and Stormwind swapping and adding DS and IF back and forth and that they went 23 turns so he had the time to get Cho that high? I realize that at a point doubling the HP is going to start growing exponentially.

That’s all I can think of.

Ok, found a video of Wowcrendor doing the Cho, DS and IF thing.

wowcrendor killed Stormwind with only 1567 damage.

I think Stormwind has Mirror Entity in the deck? I noticed in the vid that Stormwind also has a Cho up, so I assumed they waited for Stormwind to play it, then dropped Cho, which allows for infinite copying of spells. Silence the full enemy board to completely neuter it then Divine Spirit to your heart’s content (well, to the upper limit on a unit’s health/attack, which is 2^31).

Not a whole lot of chatter here. I guess I’m not the only one that’s kinda ‘meh’ on the new Karazhan cards.

While I’m liking some of the commons for Arena (Firelands Portal, just what Mage needed!) I’m not seeing any huge shake-ups there.

For constructed Curator seems interesting as a pseudo-tutor for combo decks. And I’ll likely give Beast Druid a try. But I don’t think we have enough pieces to make a Discolock work. Other than the likely overpowered Moat Lurker/Purify Priest (I’m typing that with a straight face, honest!) I don’t think we going to see any new decks. Or any huge changes in the relative power of current decks.

Most OP:

Enchanted Raven (Druid)
Menagerie Warden (Druid)
Kindly Grandmother (Hunter)
Cloaked Huntress, possibly (Hunter)
Babbling Brook and Medivh’s Valet probably for a tempo/secret mage, Firelands Portal very OP for arena but not constructed.
Maelstrom Portal (Shaman)
Kara Kazham (Warlock, and another zoo flood card)
Arcane Giant (Neutral)
Violet Illusionist (Neutral)
Medivh (Neutral)

The amount of Priest outrage right now over on r/hearthstone is justifiably enormous, and Purify is one of the worst cards ever.

Yeah, the intensity of the Purify outrage is awe-inspiring. I get it though.

I can only imagine that was designed as an okay/good card that they found out was absolutely broken in in-house testing. And nerfing it into the ground just prior to release was their only ‘safe’ option. Either that or they have no idea how to design Priest cards. I could believe that too.

The person who balanced Purify needs to be fired. It’s so fucking easy to make it a reasonable card in its niche - just reduce the cost to 1 mana - yet they were too stupid do do it.
