The Heat Is On - A Heat Wave MMP

38th! It’s good to be juvenile…and foolish. My daughter will be here soon. YAY! I’m washing towels. I practiced using the grabber to transfer wash to the dryer yesterday when I washed her sheets. It was a little like lifting a dachshund with chopsticks, but hey, it worked.

The big surprise for her will be that I FIXED THE DISHWASHER! And I didn’t bend, though I did kneel (which is allowed). Turns out when she did the world’s most thorough dishwasher cleaning, she must’ve knocked the sprayer arm thingie out of the locked position, so it came disconnected. An easy fix. Of course, it does ME little good because I can’t bend to put things on the lower shelf, and I don’t want to use the grabber on dirty dishes, but I feel accomplished nonetheless.

I have not been bending. Today I dropped a Q-tip, and it somehow landed behind the toilet, a near-impossible place for the grabber. So I wrapped double stick tape around my toe, sat backward on the closed toilet, and ta-dah! My struggles and triumphs will be immortalized on the big screen in Nellie Grabberhands, featuring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role.

My students once had to produce a commercial for a fictitious product. One group “invented” deodorizing insoles for sandals. They called them Birkenstinks.

I learned a new word today. I’ve always said “proctor,” but I like “invigilator” better. It sounds vaguely naughty.

Perhaps the hope is that if they’re loud enough…

Do you mean it’s not hot enough? You’re farther inland, so I know it gets a little hotter there in the summer.

This was your chance! You could’ve grabbed it like Mary Poppins!

Is it a particular brand or a type, like dark rye? Just curious. I love rye bread.

Of course you do. I mean, don’t you? I thought colors wouldn’t be much different, but I was so, so wrong. While I needed to see more clearly, seeing true colors instead of murky hues was a delightful blessing. Glad the surgery went well!

FCM, Otis and I are kindred souls. I had a black lab who was not. No matter the heat, she liked to lie in the sun, panting and limp. Occasionally she’d dig a big hole near the foundation of the house so she could like in nice, hot dirt.
