The Hobbit movie(s) anticipation thread

Looks like Orlando Bloom is getting $1 million for 2 minutes of screen time.

Wow.

BUMP

Quint from Aintitcool is embeded in the crew for the current 2 months of filming, which includes Elijah Wood filming his Frodo scenes that come at the very beginning of the movie. Very, very cool.

Here is his write-up, which he’ll update as his months go on.

Lookin’ good. Thanks!

I was prepared to hate these, but y’all are getting me all excited, dang it.

Yeah, they’ll do that. It sounds cool.

New production video out:

(I’m sure it will be on youtube soon)

Focuses (pun inteneded) on 3D. I’m not super thrilled with 3D, but understand it is a reality for big movies. Interesting that even the concept art is in 3D.

Even if you don’t like 3D, there is is still interesting stuff in the video

Another on-set report from “Quint”

Good God, her feet

Kili is pretty hot. Thorin’s not bad either.

I just finished watching both Jekyll and Sherlock. I do not see James Nesbitt in that Dwarf outfit at all and I am really happy with Martin Freeman as Bilbo, as Dr. Watson he was somewhat quiet and unassuming but still badass and kind of adorable and that’s how I picture Bilbo.

Best teaser of the latest blog from Peter Jackson: the shot of Bilbo in his bathrobe opening the door and four or five dwarves falling in, a la Fibber McGee’s closet.

He did an amazing job of doing Ian Holms’ Bilbo voice at 8:16 in the video when he says “It’s in very poor taste!”

I hope I’m offered the option of seeing the 48 fps version in 2D, as I cannot see 3D, like a sizable portion of the population.

I just know that I’m going to remember the bit about Leroy when I see the market scene, and that I will have to explain why I’m cracking up.

Can’t wait! Looking forward to seeing Middle Earth in 3D.

Most exciting shot to me from that video is the actors cocooned in spider-silk.

I assume we’ll get to see it in 2D as well.

That’s why I specified 48 fps as opposed to bog-standard 24 fps. The improved frame rate is what matters to me, as opposed to the stereo which I cannot see.

One of the things I loved about the LOTR trilogy, after seeing the making off doco’s was how they accomplished so much of the size differences via forced perspective tricks.

Does anyone have any idea on how (or if) they will pull that off with 3D cameras?

Yes, I mean that 48fps would screen in 2D also, though I am not totally sure. Is there a reason they would not be able to show it in 2D that way? I don’t want to see a 3D movie, but I do want to see a 48fps movie.

I hope so. I just saw a press release from digital projector maker Christie about a retrofit kit that will make all their units handle various frame rates from 24 to 48 to 72 and even higher. I fear that people will see the 3D and wrongly attribute the enhanced sense of reality to 3D, when the enhanced frame rate is the thing that is delivering the majority of the experience. One of the most amazing theatrical experiences I’ve ever has was seeing Doug Trumbull’s ShowScan 60 fps system.

Yes. Also great to see Gandalf wielding Glamdring, and Bilbo at the top of the tree looking over Mirkwood.

I wonder how they will pull off dwarves as comic relief and Klingon like warriors.
