I almost posted GO CPA’s… I guess I root for accountants as well as the Capitals…
In any event, I must say the start of this season has been quite a surprise. The Caps are hovering around .500 through October (in the past we were lucky to be 3-6-3…) The Flames are doing well, Detroit hasn’t imploded yet despite what every sports announcer predicted at the start of the season (they’re too old, injuries, etc…) New Jersey finally got back on track. And those miserable Islanders are still undefeated! How can this be??? Surely this must be the sign of the end of days…
BTW… has the midget in Anaheim scored yet?
For all the serious hockey fans out there, try looking at this link from ESPN’s (relatively) new guy, Bill Simmons:
If my Habs are going to win they’re going to have to generate a little more offense than that and somebody is going to have to start stopping more shots. Oh wait… both our goalies are out with injuries and we’re playing with minor leaguers between the pipes.
I am thinking that someone in Montreal really pissed off the hockey gods. Now they seem to hate us even more than they hate Toronto.
zoony, reports of Pittsburgh’s demise are greatly exaggerated. It’s true tht they got their asses handed to them by the Flyers the other day, but they beat the Leafs like a bunch of red-headed stepchildren. Sorry you have to root for such a crappy team there, Slip, but them’s the breaks.
I have to echo a similar statement. I had the pens as a complete write-off until sometime in January. The leafs should be ashamed. I hope that they are all doing ritualistic self-paddling over this.
I was shamed on BEHALF of the Leaf fans. One of the original 6 shouldn’t go out like this.
The Wild beat the Avs? Oh, I can’t breathe, I’m laughing too damn hard. Of course, from seeing their stats from this season so far, both teams are doing just about the same game-wise.
The Bluejackets beat the Oilers, I’m going to have to keep an eye out for flying pigs.
Well, it’s hockey night in Canada and looking south I see that Boston is up one over the Devils in the first period.
Okay folks… time to make those offerings to the hockey Gods, I might have to put up another firstborn child as my Habs face those yokels from Cowtown a.k.a. The Flames.
Anyone have a spare firstborn child they aren’t using?
My picks for winners today…
Ottawa, Colorado, Vancouver, Philadelphia, N.Y. Rangers, Pittsburgh, L.A., and Dallas.
And may the all powerful and benevolent hockey Gods show their favour upon Les Glorieux as give them victory over the Flames.
Well, 6 for 9 isn’t bad. I would have been 7 for 10 if I had remembered to add the St. Louis Blues who pummelled the Caps tonight. I meant to… really.
There was no miracle in Calgary tonight, Mathieu “The Sieve” Garon let five through in the third period so I’m thinking… why the fuck was he in net? Sadly, I’m not surprised that the Habs lost, just shocked that they took such an ass kicking.
The Sharks game against Vancouver was incredible, it was a tight game going into the third but after the Sharks scored three in 36 seconds (a francise record) there was no way Vancouver could recover.
Boston holds the record for most goals in the shortest time as they scored three in twenty seconds back in '71 against… the Canucks. Go figure.
Ouch. I’m hurting. Not only did Chicago beat Detroit. But at one point in the game the score was 5-1 in Chicago’s favour! Hasek had a VERY off night. Hasek surrendered five goals on 14 shots.
Part of me is happy Chicago is doing well. But I hate to see that coming at the expense of the Wings. What was amazing is that Hasek got yanked after letting up the 5th goal and Legace went in. Detroit scored 3 more goals and didn’t give up any more. Legace is a great backup goaltender.
On a different note. Anyone notice that Paul Kariya changed hockey sticks? He was using some new stick by Easton earlier this season (I forget the name) and he sucked. Now he’s back to his previous stick and man is he good. He’s scored 4 goals in 3 games. And he had ZERO goals in the previous 10.
Yeah, they lost to the Hawks, but I blame that on Hasek still recovering from the flu (not to mention that Chicago is having a great year). The Wings seem to be having an ass of a time getting things done in the first period, hopefully they’ll get that worked out as the season progresses.
Speaking of Detroit, I’ll be in Anaheim this Friday watching them clobber the crap out of the Mighty Ducks! Booyah!
In a battle of evils, it is sometimes difficult to discern who is “more” evil. But the Wings are only evil in name and not entirely evil in spirit owing to the offsetting Steve Yzerman factor. The Mighty Ducks, on the other hand, are evil brought forth from the ninth level of Hades itself, a team whose soul is blacker than the bottomless pit into which Anaheim fans sacrifice newborns. In this case the management will process your order for one “clobbering” of the Mighty Ducks. We believe the recent administrative confusion caused by the missing Kings dismantling of the Hawks on two occasions has been handled appropriately and we fully expect that the Ducks will be clobbered as requested.
The Oilers are visiting Beantown today to take on the Big Bad Bruins… I hope Billy Guerin doesn’t feel too bad when his old team stomps the ever loving shit out of them.
The Hawks, are seemingly unstoppable…except by a crappy team like the Ducks :D, but I refrained from gloating, and I feel that Jesus will reward me for it.
Note to Blackhawks: Throw Steve Passmore in a ditch and run him over with a front loader. He sucks.
I’ve already got my chant ready for Friday. Whenever the Ugly Ducklings get a penalty or such, I’ll be yelling “That’s not very Disney-like!”.
Ahh, the joys of wearing the visiting team’s jersey…
You’re all rattling on about a game here and a game there. Lest you forget, hockey is a marathon, not a race. So what if you’re team is hot now. The trick is to bring on the heat when it matters.
The Mighty San Jose Sharks are playing fairly mediocre hockey. The power play was their biggest weakness last season, but they’ve turned that around despite the fact that they’ve gone the entire season without one of their best defensemen, Mike Rathje. Kiprusoff and Nabakov have been doing well between the pipes, but Nolan hasn’t been too productive, and Selanne has yet to completely gel with the rest of the team. Other than a smattering of good games (like the one last night where they CRUSHED the Blues), they’ve been playing what can only be described as somewhere between “okay” and “pretty good” hockey.
Despite this, they sit alone atop the Pacific Division, 5 points from Dallas and Phoenix, and they’re in the middle of a five game win-streak where they’ve outscored their opponents 20-7.
Read this now and think about it later, down the stretch, after the all-star game, the Mighty San Jose Sharks will DOMINATE the NHL.
Viva Los Tiburones!!!
He was spectacular last night against the Avs stopping 32 shots in a 1-1 tie.
I think this will make a huge difference in how the Habs fare from here on in because it’s hard to play your game when you don’t have a lot of confidence in the guy between the pipes.
They were a much improved team last night and I don’t see them staying in the basement for much longer.
