THE Hockey Thread.

I’m still pissed about that game. The press were talking about how the Stars have been struggling so far this season. So, of course, they decided to finally get their shit together and play a really great game while they are playing against Detroit. Not to mention that there were a lot of really bad calls made against Detroit that whole game. But I do have to say that Dallas played really good that night, and Detroit was asleep at the wheel for most of the game. Oh, they woke up towards the end and finally started playing a decent game, but it was too late to save the game by then.

However, they made up for it the next night by beating the Nashville Predators 1-0. BTW, has anybody heard about the extent of Manny Legace’s injury? He took a bad spill and hurt his neck, and there really isn’t on the local news about his condition.

The Texarkana Bandits stomped the Dallas Sabres 10-1 Saturday night at the Four States Fair Grounds. The blowout featured a burst of scoring near the end of the second period where the Bandits extended a 4-1 lead by four goals in just under two minutes.

Go Bandits!

Well, the Predators are supposed to be a ‘gimmie’ and the fact that Detroit only scored 1 goal doesn’t look so good. However, I did hear that Nashville played an absolutely stellar game. So maybe Nashville at their best can’t be Detroit on an average day. Makes sense.

Some dim-wit from Nashville fell on Legace and Hasek had to finish the game. From what I read, Legace went straight to the hospital with a neck injury and spent the night in observation. I hadn’t heard anything after that. So, I guess no goal-tender gets a ‘Shut Out’ on their score card.

Here’s what I found on Detroit Free Area Press;

Legace will rest after collision
October 29, 2001

Goaltender Manny Legace suffered no serious injuries Saturday night, when he was taken off on a stretcher with his head immobilized, after a collision in the crease during the Red Wings’ 1-0 victory over the Predators.

Legace was released Sunday from Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn., and returned to Detroit with trainer John Wharton, who stayed with him overnight. He was sore and stiff, and doctors told him to rest for a couple of days. But otherwise, general manager Ken Holland said, “He’s fine.”

Holland said the Wings would call up Jason Elliott from Cincinnati of the AHL to practice today and back up Dominik Hasek on Tuesday night at Carolina. Holland said he wasn’t sure whether Legace would be able to dress Wednesday night at Dallas.

Legace went down Saturday night with 5:42 left in the second period. Nashville’s Kimmo Timonen fell on him as he covered up the puck, snapping back his head. As Legace lay on the ice, he could move his fingers and legs, but felt “strange sensations in his arms,” Holland said. So trainers strapped him to the stretcher and sent him to the hospital, where he had a CT scan and MRI exam.

“Obviously, they were very, very cautious,” Holland said.

jarbabyj,

You attendance at the game has been deemed immaterial. The original claim of a Kings thumping remains. So it is declared on this the 29th day of October in the year of our Lord Two Thousand and One.

Did anyone see Bob “I Can’t Believe I Haven’t Retired Yet” Probert get the living sht* beat outta him by Andrei Nazarov? OHMYGAWD he got tuned! Take the hint Robert; time to call it career.

That said, it’s good to see the Hawks make a stab at being a respectable team again. I figure it’s the Sutter factor - personally, I’d be scared to play badly for one of those guys: look up intense in the dictionary, it says “see them”. You just don’t like to see any of the Original 6 teams languish for too long. Unless it’s the Leafs.

Die Leafs Die!!!

Hey, I’d like to pass along my condolences to Airman Doors on the untimely demise of his beloved Pens. Between SuperMario’s bum hip (surgery - out 3-4 weeks), and Straka’s freshly broken leg (out up to 6 months), I’m not betting the farm on the supporting cast carrying that team too far. Kovalev? too flaky. Lang? too streaky. Richer? too old 5 years ago. Beech? ya gotta hope that with Mario out he doesn’t turn out to be the second (or would it be the third?) coming of Rob Brown.

Okay, wise guys. I’ve completed the calculations, and numbers don’t lie.

Get a load of this:

My beloved Leafs have a 50-50 shot at winning the Cup.

Either they’ll win it, or they won’t. And to me that’s 50-50.

Maybe I should be in Statistics. Apparently, I have a gift.

I’ll second that emotion.

The Pens are screwed for at least 1/2 the season. This really might jeopordize their chances of even making the play offs at all.

However, with all the rest Super Mario is going to get, they might come out gang-busters some time around the all-star break.

I’m willing to bet Straka is back in January.

Well, tonight is the night. Skyreach is sold out as my beloved Canadiens are coming to town to face off against the Oilers. Actually, anytime the Habs (or Leafs) play here you’d have to sell your firstborn to get a ticket. This goes back to the days when we only had two Canadian teams to cheer for although I am still baffled as to why anyone would cheer the Leafs.

I think I’ll just try and catch some of the game tonight while I’m at work, I do sometimes get paid to go and watch hockey games as well as other sporting events and concerts so I can say I have an awesome job in that respect.

I am hoping that the Habs can pull a rabbit out of a chapeau and take two points but I think I could even live with a tie.

It should be a good game…

How do you feel about same sex marriage? I think I love you.

Dear Tretiak:

Re: Hawks kicking the living shit out of the Kings

I have received my tickets in the 232 section of the United Center. I will be wearing my jersey. I will be eating Nachos.

I will also be watching the Hawks win this game 3 to 2.

Print it.

Yours in Christ,

Jarbabyj

jarbabyj - The Hawks failed to kick the living shit out of the Kings because they were simply too busy kicking the ever loving fuck out of them.

The Oilers didn’t kick the shit out of the Habs but they beat them. Salo must of had a horseshoe rammed up his ass because he got pretty freakin’ lucky tonight.

I have to tip my hat to the youngest goalie to ever wear the red, white, and blue of Les Glorieux, Olivier Michaud. He came into the game at the start of the third period to relieve Garon and stopped 14 for 14. At eighteen years, 1 month, and 7 days he got to play between the pipes and performed exceptionally well against the highest scoring team in the NHL. This is surely someone to watch for in the future.

I expect the Habs to come out of this depression fairly soon, hopefully Theodore will be back quickly because tonight’s game really came down to who had the better goalie. Salo is one of the best and he made some amazing fucking saves tonight to keep the Oilers ahead. I was asking myself, “How the fuck did he stop that?” all night.

And for my friend Slip - Toronto won it’s third home game in a row as they defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning. This puts them at the top of the Northeast Division while my beloved Habs have dropped into the basement. The Habs are two games back from Ottawa, Boston, and Buffalo so there’s hope they’ll pick up some points in the coming days as they face Vancouver and Calgary and then they’ll be breathing hard down the back of Toronto’s neck.

Slip- Enjoy it while you can. Revel in the glory that is the Leafs. Scream it from the rooftops.

I’ll be making my offerings to the Hockey Gods and as we know, they hate the Leafs more than I do.

MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA?

We’re on top, you’re in the root cellar, and you give me MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA?

Stop smoking that stuff, Feynn. It’ll fry your neural synapses.

Your Habs are in a tailspin, and I’m going to love watching them crash and burn.

As for the rest of you guys, you can’t ignore the Leafs forever. We’re here, and we’re staying.
MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Slip -

Have you installed ICQ on your computer?

It’s an amazing program that lets you baste people in real time… not that I would ever think of stopping my posting here but it’s nice to have options. I would like to send you a hearty “Bite me” and “Leafs suck”.

On that homicide thing… the evidence has all melted so I will have to wait until colder temperatures hit and then I can rebait the trap.

Until then, it will be hockey-hockey-hockey-hopefully some sex-hockey-hockey-hockey.

Hockey isn’t everything you know…

Tretiak:
ahem

jarbabyj,

Due to clerical and administrative error the dismantling of the Hawks has been re-scheduled for tomorrow night. Those responsible have been downsized…and kicked in the crotch for good measure. Although this error is in your favor, we do apologize for the mix-up. As always, I remain…

Your Humble Servant,
Tretiak

Ok, so Hasek gets sick so they put Legace in net nearly directly from the hospital still with a stiff neck and the wings STILL WIN! Ha!

I love teams that go 4 lines deep. That’s partially why I never could get really into the 2 line deep Pens last year. I love Mario and Jagr but they weren’t enough for me to cheer the team on.

It hard to cheer for teams that have short lines.

LOL Tretiak & jarbabyj

In other news;
Good games on tonight!
The Blues and the Avalanche!
Detroit (and Brett Hull) come to Dallas!
The Sharks take on the Mighty Ducks… oh wait, they both eat ass.

Blues over the Avs! What a game! There were some really good hits in that game. And I thought for sure that the Avs might tie the game, especially in the 2nd period. The Avs looked to be on a sort of perpetual power play. But they just couldn’t get the biscuit in the basket.

Also, of course, the WINGS won. Hull got the winning goal in OT. That game was just flat out strange. 6 goals in the 1st period. no goals in the 2nd or 3rd. I think that Detroit’s Legace has a stiff neck and it’s affecting his play a bit. I’m not sure why Belfour had such a rotten 1st period.

Hasek is still out with the flu.

Oh, and suprise suprise. Without the two best players for the Pens, they got crushed by Philly. I sure hope that the Pens can at least sell enough seats to keep solvent.

Note To The Avs:

Roy can only do so much. Good Christ, clear that puck. I felt like I was watching a group of people run a workhorse into the ground.

The Blues goalie (Johnson?) was standing around FLOSSING for most of that game.

And Doug…doug…doug weight…

run away with me.
