Is the lead sentence in a local newspaper story about the latest on DQ, Baygirl, and Bayboy.
ETF, I’m not trying to be sarcastic, but exactly which story is about DQ and those poor horses? I just see a link about underage driving…
er… underage drinking and driving.
Try clicking on “see today’s stories”. That one is titled Hamilton horse-napping.
They have the links set up strangely on that site. I thinkink it was supposed to be this story on “Horse-napping”. I opened the link in a new window to get the full URL.
Thanks, Eats_Crayons. ETF, I hope your boss gets her back before that woman does any further damage.
Ah, well. As luck would have it, on Saturday I talked to a fellow boarder at my barn who’s talked to the owner of the horse I care for about adopting him as a companion for her blind Arabian gelding. Looks pretty close to a done deal.
Now, if things can go equally well for Bayboy and Baygirl… I can tell you that the investigator for the SPCA is pursuing gathering the evidence she’ll need to take action, and she’s been getting an earful from the kids here who’ve witnessed incidents that will support abuse allegations. The investigator has to get the parents’ permission to take official statements, but the one mother I’ve talked to about it is all for it.
I know this is an old thread, and I apologize, but I really am interested (and hopeful)…
ETF, any word on Bayboy and Baygirl yet? Please tell me the story has a happy ending.
Some good news, some not.
First, the bad: As of this writing, Bayboy is still with DQ. No word on progress of the MSPCA investigation. I’m told DQ has bought a new horse. One person who saw it said she thought it looked like a two-year-old.
:: Pause for shudders of horror ::
Good news: Baygirl is back in our barn! DQ’s lawyer called barn owner’s lawyer shortly after he’d filed a civil complaint for damages and return of the mare, asking what it would take “to make this case go away”. Barn owner’s lawyer filled in clueless DQ lawyer on just what sort of client he had, and made it clear that return of Baygirl was nonnegotiable.
By the time DQ was required under court rules to file an answer to the complaint, she capitulated, and after mutual waivers were signed, Baygirl returned to a joyous welcome home.
Baygirl looks fine. Before her horsenapping she was quite affectionate. Right after her return she seemed more wary and standoffish, not wanting anyone to touch her head. But she’s coming around and seems quite happy now. We’re all thrilled to have gotten her away from DQ, whose traffic arrest led to this resolution:
Ooooh. DQ needs a good, solid kick in the head from Bayboy.
Sounds like she thinks of him not as a living creature with feelings, but some broken-down car that’s been giving her trouble. Can’t you report her for animal abuse to someone? The ASPCA maybe?
I wonder if her tune would change if she was on the receiving end of the whip instead.
If she keeps on as she’s been going, there’s a good chance of that.
The state SPCA is investigating her, and since she’s no longer at the barn, we don’t know what action, if any, they’ve taken. The investigator did explain that, at this level of abuse, they don’t have the power to seize Bayboy, but they can and will warn her and monitor for signs of future abuse.
There’s a lot of us at the barn who’d sure like to try it and see.
Contact the International League for the Protection of Horses (www.ilph.org) PLEASE!!!
I cannot BEAR the thought of this poor animal going thru more hell and I’m SURE that at the very least that the ILPH will do what it can to advise you or may be even able to help secure a loving home for this horse!
I sponsor two horses thru the ILPH that for whatever reason cannot be rehomed.
PLEASE give them a call/email!!!
