It would take a vote by the entire chamber. Again, there aren’t likely the votes to do so.
Agreed. And again, the idea here is that the Dems can’t let witnesses walk all over them.
New thread, given that this one is speculation/prediction; might be interesting to start fresh.
Why?
Pelosi said that the impeachment inquiry is already happening (the subject of this thread) and that now the only difference is that these committees are going to refer their findings to the House Judiciary committee.
So no need for a new thread now. It’s the same thing that’s been happening, just under a new legal umbrella.
I don’t want to muddy the waters, and am happy to ask for the new thread to be closed if that’s helpful. But surely you agree that this is, in politics if not in legal technicality, a big freakin’ deal, qualitatively different from the technical opening of impeachment proceedings that precipitated this thread. It’s going to be treated very differently by the public and by politicians, and I’d love for folks to be able to jump into the discussion of today’s events without feeling like they need to be caught up on five pages of discussions of events dating back to July.
Given recent developments in this story, and in a housekeeping effort, I’m going to close this thread and direct people to the more current one going on regarding the recent announcement by Pelosi:
