The Humblebrag Thread

Me, a good basketball player? No way, Jose. Heck, back in the day, when me and my buddies Michael Jordan and Larry Bird used to compete in pick-up games at the old playground court, they often scored higher than me. Of course, I used to spot them a few handicap points, but still…

And, as far as figuring things out, I’m no Einstein. My old pal, Albert Einstein did a much better job figuring out that whole relativity thing than me, despite my better grasp of quantum mechanics.

Minor badassery (plus a good deal of luck):

Five years and one week ago I was hired as a “seasonal” (ie: probationary) part time employee at the brand new store of somewhat niche horse equipment company in a town near me.

Yesterday I was promoted to Store Manager!

I’m terrified and excited. In truth I’ve been doing at least 90% of the job for a while now as my store manager boss has been a very in-demand District Manager for 6 stores, plus running ours. She’s now been promoted to full time DM for 18 stores, and I was asked to assume full responsibility for this store. Not exactly how I thought I’d spend my 60th decade! Wish me (more) luck

You’re almost 600 and you’re only now making Store Manager?
Sad.

Well, the horse biz is kinda slow by modern standards. Clop Clop Clop steadily and ploddingly into the future.

Seriously, congrats! That’s an achievement you came by honestly, deservedly, and gradually. Which is the best way.

Whoops! Overactive fingers on the keyboard!

I had to take the time and effort to answer another email from Switzerland asking for advice for a person starting work on a PhD.

We visited Pelikaan Brewery, the only microbrewery in Sint Maarten/Saint Martin, last night. I consider myself somewhat of a beer enthusiast/connoisseur.

At one point the brewer excitedly took me back to where a beer was working but not yet ready for sale. He was very excited about it.

He poured out a pint and gave it to me. I was a bit nervous about trying it, so I really took my time. The aroma was amazing. Before even taking a sip I identified the beer and its special components. I made the brewer’s day and he made mine.
