Ugh. Cottonwoods. Junk trees. Several times a year my sister and BIL’s A/C goes out and every flippin’ time it’s because the outside unit is clogged to death with cottonwood crap. You’d think they’d learn and have their 14 year old son just hose it out a couple of times a month, but NO. The trees are on a neighbor’s property and they like them, so no getting rid of them.
And my parents have a townhouse that backs up to a pond which is city property. About 5’ onto that city property, a stand of cottonwoods has sprung up. I was shocked when I visited a couple of weeks ago because several of the trees are now about 25’ high and I never remembered there being trees there. Yup, they’d grown something like 15’ this year (plenty of sun and water for 'em). Blocking my parents view and giving my mother’s allergies fits. But of course, they’re on city property and my father would get cited for it if he just went out and cut them down…
Once in a great while. Sometimes I have a State prop I am on the fence about. Then I read them. But sometimes a “Yes On” will push me towards “NO” if the propaganda is idiotic enuf.
It kept the Post Offices doors open this year.
I’m sure the TV stations are in the black too What used to take six pushes of the skip button on the TiVO remote now takes 8-9. No wounder it want new batteries
It’s kind of sad to think of all the effort that’s wasted making paper, printing ads on it, presorting it, mailing it across the country, putting it on a route, and stuffing it in my mailbox, all so I can drop 95% of it in my recycle bin without a second glance. Then a big truck comes around Wednesday morning to collect it and bring it to a sorting facility where it gets turned back in to pulp to start the process over again.
I was reading an article recently on Canada Post, that they are set to focus the majority of their business on parcel delivery rather than personal mail. I can only imagine that the USPS will do the same. I can live with mail being delivered to a neighbourhood super box, since as everyone has noted, it isn’t much other than bills and junk mail (and I can get the bills online if I want).
Two years ago, I got literature from one local politician every other day for weeks complaining about how wasteful his opponent was. Talk about a waste of paper.
We read one because I noticed as I scanned it that they had misspelled “understand”. Looking further, there was a grammatical error and a punctuation error. Guy’s running for mayor of our city, and of course one of the things he says he’ll do is improve our schools. :smack:
I find campaign literature to be helpful, sometimes. It helps me to decide who I won’t vote for. The guy whose flyer is based mostly on his church involvement and how he’s going to make our city safe for Christians again will be noted as someone that I don’t want to vote for.
Oh, you silly girl you. You’re miles ahead of what I’m talking about! I don’t begrudge typos or some spelling errors. What I’m on about is…well, this right here…
Directly cut and pasted from a thread in IMHO. I’d go ahead and attribute it, but what’s the point?
I just don’t have any more charity in my heart for this shit.
Are they removing them by chopping them down? If so, that’s where their mistake is. What they need to do is pull them up by the roots; then if anyone gets all up in their grille about it, they can just say that they’re transporting the trees to be replanted on a farm “upstate.”
I feel your pain, and your mom’s. There are cottonwoods around the parking lot at work, and when they are shedding that flipping pollen, it really does look like its snowed.
The worst part about those ugly junk trees is that they refuse to die. Most trees will die if someone drills holes in their trunks and pounds copper in them. A “friend” once crept under the cover of darkness with a drill, copper wire and a hammer to assault some offending cottonwoods. That was almost 3 years ago, the flipping trees are healthy and thriving. Damn, I hate them more than is proper.
Bint, if you don’t mind
You are very nice, and that was pretty hard to read, but when I see something like that, I tend to assume that the OP isn’t used to how the board works. Now, if the OP continued to do it, after spending a week after joining, I’d probably not engage them. I do have to confess that I’m a big Diamond05 fan. (hopes I got the name right).
I come here for the snark, and good advice, but also for the crazy. Depending on my mood, sometimes the crazy is more important.
My rant: After I took Bill to the airport, I stopped at the feed store. I stocked up on gooshy food, bought some kibble and then looked at dog stuff. I don’t have a dog yet, but I did buy some treats for next time I’m looking at them.
I forgot to get kitty litter. :smack: I’m going to have to buy litter at a PetPlace on my way home tomorrow. Higher prices and I’ll have to drive my car during the last few days of the riding season. FML, I’m such an idiot.
We did something similar yesterday. The local PetPlace had a dog group there with a passel of pooches up for adoption. They ended up with a big ass bag of dog kibble - I ended up going back today for cat kibble.
I wish I was more of a dog person. They had the sweetest shepherd / collie mix.
Chimera et. al., I hear you. I leave the landline unplugged except when I need it, because my Mother’s ALZ means she’ll call 10 or more times in a row without regard to the time. When I plugged it in the last time, there were 27 calls in 1 week, all robo-calls.
I’ve gotten 3 or 4 things for Mike Pence for Governor, into the recycling each time. Fuck you, Mike! Die in a fire! And they’re addressed to ME and I have never been registered republican ever.
