Which “he” is it that you think is innocent - the stepfather or the real father?
You think that’s the reason? What a pain in the ass for halloween decorations!
Anyway, my halloween party mini-rant. We have one woman in our social circle who is, to be polite, socially maladjusted. Every time there is a party, she complains that there is no “diabetic” food for her (she’s diabetic). Just for her, we bought a couple of items for our party Saturday - sugar-free cookies, and popcorn with no sugar added. Her response - “Sugar-free food always tastes bad - I don’t like it.” Okay then, duly noted - make no effort to accommodate you in the future, since you won’t appreciate it anyway. As an aside, there was another lady at the party who is also diabetic, and I’ve never, ever heard a peep out of her that the food provided wasn’t appropriate for her. What the hell is “diabetic” food, anyway?
Oh yeah, my vote for next month’s mini-rant thread - “Do You Remember, the Rants of November?”
Sounds to me like you need to get in the habit of locking your door. Not everyone out there wants to be your friend.
I am in the habit of locking my door, but sometimes when I go in and out frequently, I don’t.
Chamomile tea bag is floating. How is it supposed to steep properly if it floats? Stupid dumb tea.
Hi! Glad you could get that off your chest. People are happy to listen (well, read … ) and no worries about language, at least here in the Pit. Dial it up a notch, if it helps! ![]()
Also, sympathy and hugs to madrabbit and S. Dorothy. Hang in there.
For a complete answer, it’s complicated. The shortest answer is that it’s low carb food. Low carb veggies are best. Popcorn isn’t as bad as white bread, white rice, white pasta, potatoes, etc., but it’s a carb and should be planned into the diet. A lot of the ‘sugar free’ foods marketed have too many carbs in them to be eaten on a regular basis, or to have more than one or two in a day.
Type 2 diabetics usually need to lose weight, so we should be watching calories, too. Excess fat can cause a rise in blood sugar and can throw your cholesterol off, which is bad because diabetics are more prone to heart problems. Excess protein can stress your kidneys.
Think about the perfect diet from the nutrition ads, with fewer carbs, and you’re about there. For a Halloween Party, if you provide a veggie tray you’ve done all you can.
It’s a twofer today.
Darling wife. There is no language where “We need to go now.” translates to “Why don’t you clean out the refrigerator?” I’ve checked. Get your ass out the door and into the car. Kthxluvya.
Got my electric bill notice in email this morning and nearly swallowed my coffee cup when it was $500 more than expected. Spent the entire trip to work trying to figure out where the son would be hiding a grow room. Pull up bill online when I got to work and the first page is an apology for having miscalculated and undercharged the bill in previous months and the difference is being added to the current cycle. Page down to billing detail and there’s an entry for 1725 kw/h at .003 for a total of $510. Decimal slide much? (Should be $5.10 for those of you with insufficient caffeine on board to do math right now.) Call in to report the problem and the intro recording states they’re aware of the problem and are working diligently to fix it. Diligence should happen in the first place fuck-wits, not as a response.
I’ll be printing this one out to send back to them the next time they’re hitting me up to sign up for direct billing. Include a note that starts Not just no, but hell no! Then it’ll start getting rude. I’m not so hard up that I couldn’t have stood a $500 hit for a few days but I know there are lot’s of people in the community that will be in a bad way. Overdrawn, multiple overdraft fees, unable to buy food & gas. I only hope that FuckwitElectricCo got the cancel orders out to the banks before it got to that.
could you bring some cut up vegtables with a low fat dip? not that you should be responsible for her dietary issues but if you want to be accomadating to her that would be my suggestion. Most likely she will grouse about that as well as she sounds like like that kind of person. Alternatively you might ask what she would like to see .
Also from what I have been told by my doctor, dietician and books I have read the white flour in the cookies as well as the popcorn are more of a problem than the sugar. And of course everyone is treating themselves with a different diet plan but for the most part veggies are alomost always good. If you provided sugar free cookies and sugar free popcorn with my I would apprecaite the effort but still not be able to eat it most likely.
I don’t want to come off as pushy, but I riffed on that song for last month’s mini-rant thread.
The Stepfather is the one that I know, the father lives in several states away. I think I met him 10 years ago when the origianl family first moved to memphis and was not impressed with him at all.
I don’t know if John is innocent or not. I think he seems to be a great guy and I would like to think he is at most guilty of being stupid and trusting (stepdaughter called to talk about coming home and he talked with her help fix the situation and Step-daughter turned him in for violating a restraining order)
Having been a social worker and having read survivors stories, I know how manipulative abusers can be, I also know how manipulative teenagers who think the world owes them everything can be especially when drugs are involved.
There is no solution that I am looking for here I just want to say something to somebody and I can’t say this anywhere else without more facts. My thought is teenager needs counseling pronto whther for being abused or for trying to destroy a good man.
Thanks for listening.
You’ve probably figured this out now, but she doesn’t want special food. She wants special attention and for everyone to know how difficult it is for her.
How about “Nothin’ lasts forever even cold November rants”
No, you’re just saving us from plagiarizing. Thanks-- it would’ve been awkward.
BTW, I vote for a short name. Maybe even “November Mini-Rants” (Clever, eh?). I feel bad for the people who don’t recognize the obscure reference, and they shouldn’t have to suffer just because they’ve never heard “November I’m In Love” by the Cure (kidding, don’t waste time looking it up). BTBTW, I spent September with that song from The Fantasticks stuck in my head, and was pretty sick of it.
My teacher keeps complaining that the people in the class are stinking up the class. Today she said it was because we didn’t wash enough. Hello? The teacher either doesn’t know, or doesn’t acknowledge, that the reason that the class stinks is because at least a good half of the class are smokers. The teacher herself is a stinky smoker, so maybe she doesn’t want to speak out against the smokers.
Definitely gets my vote - love it ![]()
wanders off humming “don’t you need some time, on your own?”
Yup, while I haven’t been hit with that kind of nonsense, it is one of the many reasons why I refuse to give anyone the right to automatically withdraw (ok, technically “auto-pay”) anything from my account.
I could do that, but I don’t see that happening - turning your nose up at what I’ve gone out of my way to provide doesn’t earn you any special favours in the future.
I think we have a winner.
Ah, that’s probably why it was in my head. You used it too early, you premature rant-titler, you!
Ooh, that’s good!
Hah - a smoker complaining about anyone else smelling is funny!
I don’t like sugar free food, either. And the stuff with artificial sweeteners sometimes gives me headaches and/or diarrhea. Generally I’ll eat a little of whatever is generally available, and take extra insulin when I get home. What I would prefer is cut up veggies and dip, for the most part. And if I’m supposed to bring something to a party, that’s frequently what I bring. Almost everyone can eat it. Most dips do have dairy in them, and also most dips are moderately to severely fatty. For me, though, veggies (with or without the dip) are far less problematic than anything with starch in it. I can eat all the non-starchy veggies that I want to, though I do have to either skip the dip or eat a limited amount of it. You might ask her what she likes, or you might put HER in charge of bringing food sometimes.
I was thinking something along the lines of “Cold November Raints”, since there’s supposed to be a lot of rain in some areas, and November is generally a rainy month anyway.
