Now if there were any remote chance of those millions learning that a) HB was successfully prosecuted for having (they say) lied on the same form they lied on, and b) that there were loud and relentless calls for everyone who did what HB was accused of doing to be similarly prosecuted… well, the election would be over now.
Of course they’ll never make that connection and no one they listen to will make it for them. All GOP-pro expressions of pleasure that HB got what he deserved will never be connected to the fact of what should happen to all who did what he did.
So Americans have two realistic opions for their next leader.
A man who is so bad at leadership that he raised up a son who has become a convicted felon quite possibly soon to be on multiple counts as there are other charges still outstanding
A man who is a convicted felon with other outstanding charges hiself
I’m glad I live in the UK where our Politicians are cleaner than clean. In the General election the two parties with any chance of winniny my constituency are the Tories (see here, here, and here) and the SNP (see here, and here.)
While there is a correlation between bad parenting styles and criminality, there is, from a parental standpoint, a lot of luck here. Even adults who are worse than Hunter often come from good homes. See::
Do you mean to say that you know of some method of leadership or parenting that prevents and/or cures addiction? I was under the impression that addiction can happen to anyone regardless of how they were brought up.
All people who qualify for a court appointed attorney can file an appeal of a criminal case without fee and have a court appointed attorney handle the appeal. Many appointed appellate attorneys are quite good.
I am no expert but I believe good parenting can instill a knowledge of the dangers of drugs greatly reducing the chances of their child taking drugs.
My understanding however is Hunter Bidon was not conficted of taking drugs but of buying a gun when he was not allowed to do so and lying on a federal form in order to do so. How can a president instill a respect for the law among the general populice when he can not even do so with his son.
I’m not sure about the UK, having never been there, but usually in the United States by the time a man is 54 his father no longer has a lot of influence over what he does anymore. Especially when that father has a pretty demanding job, like short order cook, or holiday retail associate, or President of the United States.
Let me see if I’m following. So, if Hunter had been found not guilty, the President Biden would this day be a terrific parent and a leader who inspires lawfulness in the nation. But since he was found guilty, the president is an abject failure in both respects.
My God, juries have even more power than I thought!
I was 54 not very long ago and would not consider buying a gun as it is illegal for me to do so and would never lie on an official form (I would also not consider taking illegal drugs).
I don’t think that is all genetics I think a lot of that is due to the fact my parents raised me up to respect the law while I was a child. When I was 54 I wasn’t asking my mum what I should do (my dad had passed away by then) but what they taught me in the early years of my life still shapes my character.
Then explain Joe’s two other children that survived to very accomplished adulthood. Or my brother, who is a criminal and drug addict. (I promise you I am very much not either of those things.)
See, I actually have real personal experience with this subject. When you say:
If Hunter Bidon had been found not guilty of this one charge thst would hardly make him a shining example to humanity and hence not make Joe a terriic parent.
In the same way if Trump had been found not guilty of falsifying business records that would not make him the perfect person to be the next POTUS.
I never claimed he was a MAGAt or an extremist. It does seem like he expended a great deal of effort on this one person after a political pressure campaign though.
Your parents effect who you turn out to be. They also don’t.
The President has four kids. One died at an early age and another died about a decade ago. Both incidents seem to have hit the other kids pretty hard. Beau and Ashley seem to have turned out well.
Hunter wasn’t the first kid, so Joe had some practice in, already.
Hunter became a lawyer so he seems to have learned the law.
I’m sure that there’s something wrong that the Bidens did that, had they done different, there may have been a better outcome. But, as it is, Hunter blames the sheer deliciousness of alcohol and drugs. And that does match what we’ve discovered about drugs and addiction. It’s like being allergic to strawberries. Most people can partake and go on with life. You eat a strawberry and it’s delicious; you drink some beer and you’re in control. Other people will have their throat close down; and other people will discover that they can’t stop.
Millions of kids go through college every year and a majority of them will try something that is addictive. Most will quit when college ends. A few won’t and they’re basically doomed for the rest of their life.
People do drugs for a variety of reasons. Many are in considerable emotional pain. Hunter lost his mother and sister in a terrible accident, and was injured himself. A fractured skull. I’m no expert, but a serious brain injury is probably a contributing factor to later drug use. A least a bigger factor than “bad parenting.”
.
One of my children was abused as a child, and later developed an addiction problem, while none of her siblings have any addiction issues. I would urge you to consider this a more complicated issue than simply the failure of “good parenting” to “instill a knowledge of the dangers of drugs.” People these days are generally aware of the dangers of drugs.
I do have sympathy for people getting addicted to drugs, people get trapped for a number of reasons and once addicted it is very difficult to stop, but as I said before that is not the point.
The “sheer deliciousness of alcohol and drugs” has nothing to do with buying a gun nor of lying on an official document. Or is Hunter Bidon addicted to guns to the point where he craved had to have one even if that was illegal and he would have to lie to obtain it (and especially as a lawyer he would know the consequences of that).
