We’re finally bringing this house into the 21st Century! The Dish Network guy is on the roof at this very moment bolting down satellite dish. And two weeks ago, we introduced the house to telephone service. Apparently the previous occupants exclusively used cellphones as there was not even a phone line run to the house.
Hope he’s done soon as we’re supposed to be at a party in 20 minutes. Think we’re going to be a bit late for that.
I left the house the first time at 6:00 am this morning. I was back by about 8:15 or so.
I left the house again at 10:00 am to pick up our roast. Also…I had to go out and buy MORE presents. Mr. Taters decided that we needed to get our three nieces and nephews, along with their five kids presents. Greaaat! Everything was way picked over. He didn’t want to get anything too big or expensive. I basically made up a grab bag for the great-nieces and nephews. They’re all under five. They each got a coloring book and crayons, a story book, some Hershey’s kisses in a little Hershey’s guy, and box of Tim-Tims.
For the nephews and nieces, I got them a nice gift bag of Lindt Truffles. I also ended up picking up some jammies for my daughter, son, and the daughter’s boyfriend. I did that because I felt kind of bad after a discussion my daughter and I had yesterday afternoon.
She asked if they were going to get to open the “jammie present” tonight after we got home from MiL’s house. I told her that I hadn’t bought any this year. Besides, I told her, she and her brother always get jammies from Grandma. She told me the jammies I pick out are better.
Sooooo, I felt sort of bad and got them all jammies. They’ll be surprised when I hand them the gift bags tonight.
At any rate, I didn’t get back home until almost noon, and now I’m running around like a chicken with my head cut off. I’m tired and we haven’t even begun the celebrations yet. I also have to make the green bean casserole my MiL wants me to bring.
We leave here at 4:30 for MiL’s. I don’t think we’ll be getting home at 9:00.
I tell you what, FCM. Come Saturday, I’m not doing one damn thing. I’m going to sit around in my jammies all day and nap, read, whatever.
Tomorrow, the insanity starts all over again. I broached the subject of maybe changing our Christmas Day celebration to a kind of open house with good noshing food next year. That was met with a firm NO. I was also greeted with a look that clearly indicated I was ::this:: close to being committed to the mental hospital for even expressing such heresy aloud.
Ah well. I suppose at some point in our lives, it’s going to be just the hubby and I for Christmas. Maybe we’ll get to go on a trip and be pampered, instead of hosting everyone.
Hee, haven’t seen the NORAD site since my niece and nephew were much younger. It’s really cool now. Thanks for sharing, rosie.
I’ll bet the kids will be tickled about the jammies, Taters. And yes, your day sounded exhausting.
Hi Haze!
I worked all day (although lunch was laid-back snacking with a couple of friends) and actually got lots done - since it was quiet and everyone who was in was in the “leave me alone and let me get stuff done” mindset.
Am hanging out with the little brother, eating pita bread and hummus. Need to clear off the table where the Christmas tree is going to go and put it up. Just going to do a few decorations. Also have a couple of candles for the windows that I’ll put on timers.
Faraway Best Friend called earlier. They’d already opened presents (they open them Christmas Eve) and been to Mass.
I’m thinking we might go for a bit of a walk to admire everyone’s decorations before going off to midnight Mass here.
Hope everyone’s having a lovely evening/morning/whatever. Loved the cookie-plate picture, Dotty! Do share pics of the present opening!
I have to work two hours tomorrow morning, drive back to Moravian Town in questionable road conditions and then have a Goode Olde Fashionede Familye Christmase. I get to spend the night before coming back to work tomorrow afternoon. Ah, the hosptiality industry.
I was already in Moravian Town this afternoon visiting Honda Friend. We hung out for a few hours and talked about guys–she told me about the Marine she’s dating and I told her about my lack of progress with Mr. Arizona. I’m trying to convince her to move to Hippy Hollow, too.
Wheee! I was late getting in to work today (the ice and snow refroze and I waited until it was light enough to see where I was going to venture out); I ended up being at work until after 1 PM  Twas okay, except I had a “project” dumped on me that ended up taking nearly two hours to do–and which involved me being at my desk the entire time. Heh. So I am -very- glad it’s the holiday now!
I had a bit (LOL) of grocery shopping to finish up. I got a couple of containers of hummus, though, and promptly forgot to get the pita bread to go with it! It has also been determined that we need more trash bags! Now that is -really- a necessity, and someone may have to go out to Safeway tomorrow, -if- it is open. LOL I do have a turkey, a small rib roast, some lamb chops and we’d already gotten a spiral sliced ham. I’m thinking of making yorkshire pudding to go with the roast. Wish me luck!
ETA: I see hummus is a Mumper tradition. Brother had to go back to the grocery store to get an additional back of pita bread because we couldn’t find the first one. Should I pass you the extra bag through the CD drive,** tarra**?
We’re back from MiL’s place. There were a total of 19 of us there. Yeesh, what a noise fest. It was nice though, catching up with everyone between the squeals of the wee ones.
All the same, I’m glad to be home. I need to stuff the kids’ stockings and maybe, just maybe I’ll be motivated to do a little more tidying up. I don’t know though, I am dead tired.
Tomorrow’s meal will be quite yummy. I’m looking forward to eating it. The cooking and cleaning part, not so much.
Merry, merry Christmas. I’ve got stockings to stuff.
When we were kids, we’d be up this early, just dying to tear into our packages. Mom and Dad took *forever *to get up!!! It was tough being a kid at our house on Christmas morning.
Today I was rousted by a cat who opened the bedroom door and let his sister in, too. **FCD **is still snoozing, and I need to get the salad fixins all ready, then iron my blouse. Then tend to the turtle and the cat downstairs. Then shower. Then help pack the car. Then drive 2+ hours… holy cow, I just woke up and I’m exhausted!!!
Hope you all have a wonderful day, however you choose to spend it. And if you find you have too much chocolate lying about, I can give you my address…
Thanks for the warning, rosie, fat man in red has been to visit Fae Towers but opening stuff will have to wait until later 'cos 'im indoors is still in bed snoring.
I have manflu, got up earlier to feed the cats and went back to bed for a couple of hours. Now I’m up and semi-mobile, I have the hexmas bird to deal with but I need a cup of tea first. Other than that, I’m having a day in my jammies. My mum rang this morning before she headed out to church with her friends, they’re having a great time in a hotel on the coast so that’s good for her.
Meanwhile, I have germs. How inconsiderate is that? I am hoping that the cure is champagne because that’s what they’re getting later!
Have a great day, whatever you’re doing…and Taters, get the rest of the family to tidy up. Why should you have to do it all?
Up and getting ready for the chilluns to arrive. We will open presents then. Other family will arrive later for dinner. It’s rainy but warm. 77 Murkin degrees.
