Accomplished anything lately? Any cool thing happen because of you?
Major or minor, brag about it here!
Me, I participated in my first craft show today. And you know what? People actually bought my stuff! The stuff I was selling wasn’t exactly expensive, but I made about $25, which is WAY more than enough to cover expenses.
I sat down and faced things, and paid all of my bills this month. And with careful budgeting, I can get them all paid every month. And that is the beginning of the end of my debt. It may take years to fix the mess I’m in, but making a start, calling those companies to whom I owe money, and sending the checks is truly a start.
And I do know that I only have 1 more payment to JCPenney, and they will be paid off for good. Which leaves me $114 more a month for some other bill(student loans). That’s been a long 10 months paying that off.
Way to go!
Nothing to brag about for me yet.
Oh wait! I have been driving in the snow! Does that count? After 12 years of avoiding driving in the snow I have finally done it and I have done well so far.
Knock on wood that I haven’t just done my van in by stating that.
But, Seph, that goes to show that you learned well. Was it the stuff that you have been crocheting? I am so proud of you.
I am still killing myself with those snowflakes and have informed everybody that they might not be done by Yule or Christmas. But they will get one while there is still snow on the ground.
Yay for you, Kricket! This is my first year of living in the Midwest, after a lifetime in SoCal and Phoenix, and I have just done my first driving in the snow as well. Looks like I’m going to get to do a bunch more shortly.
I also just revised my budget and discovered that, if I stick pretty close to it, I’ll be out of debt (except for the car) by this time next year! Keep plugging away, Lsura. I thought I’d never get here myself, all those years ago, but freedom is in sight.
I am a far way off from being debt free! So thumbs up to those who are!
Lucie if you don’t mind where abouts are you at now?
Here in Iowa we are getting freezing rain to start with and then about 5 inches on top of the 9 we just got. The only difference with this new 5 is that it is comming in the form of a blizzard. 50mph baby!
I am happy that you got the nerve before I did. It can be kinda scary.
Kricket: Yep, it was the crochet stuff. I also made soap, and some little plastic canvas refrigerator magnets. The magnets didn’t sell at all, which kind of surprised me (I don’t know about anyone else, but I never seem to have enough of those). The soap and the crochet sold quite well, though! The soaps were nice & small–perfect little stocking stuffers.
Kricket & lucie: two thumbs up on the snow driving! I am really not good at it, even though I’ve lived in Michigan all my life, and it snows here every year. You’d think I’d get it by now!
Lsura: That is truly outstanding! Unless you’re fabulously wealthy, getting everything caught up is NOT an easy task. I remember the first time I had actually done that, several years ago (sigh. Wish I could say this is the case now!) I was actually able to write checks for the utilities and mail them in, because nothing was going to get cut off if I didn’t pay right now. I was so excited, I called my mom. Know what she said? “Did you giggle your head off while you were writing the checks? I did, the first time that happened to me!” I love my mom.
In order to take my vacation the week after Christmas, I have had to pull up all my work by about a week. It has meant doubling up on some days and juggling the entire fourth week appointments, but it looks like I’ll be able to do it.
After working my keester off just to be able to complete my work before my vacation, I’m really going to need a vacation.
Well I’m proud of the fact that out of the past 4 month of school I have only missed 2 days when I was really ill. (This is a big thing for me since this time last year I would have missed probably half of the time I should be in school)
And I’m proud of the fact that I actually liked some of my writing enough to show it to my English teacher and send some into a poetry contest.
I let my English teacher read some of my poems as well. Her response? “Get published.”
I am almost for-sure guaranteed to be Annie Oakley in my school’s production of “Annie Get Your Gun” this spring. I’m also (tentatively) going to co-direct a community play this summer.
You know, “the table,” or “the one place in the house where all the crap goes.” Everyone has a spot like that in their home. The place where all the mail gets piled. Where the stuff that hasn’t quite found it’s own space ends up.
It looks much better now. I even put some of my Christmas placemats on it.
Now if only I could just get around to cleaning the rest of the house…
I want to give myself a pat on the back, after trying for so long, I decided to get serious and lose some weight, happy to report in 2 months time have lost 25 lbs. I am proud of myself and plan to keep losing.
I’m proud that when I moved here to NC, I made a commitment to my good gal friend that I’d help her with her catering biz while she was expecting. Well, the baby came a good month early! Everything is in an uproar, it’s the chaos of the holidaze, and I’ve been thrown all of these intricate French baking tasks that are severely caramellizing my mind! But when I see how it’s allowing one of my best sisters the time to get esconsced with her beautiful baby, it’s worth all the effort.
PS: SinTwisty: send me a fridgerator magnet! And who the Hell wouldn’t buy any of yer “stuff”? Hee!
I’ve lost 6 lbs! Oh, and last night at work, I set up a record 133 new users on our system in a period of about 5 hours. That may not mean much to you guys, but my co-workers were impressed! We usually only get 5-15 user setups a night. Someone’s been doing some MAJOR hiring! Oh, yeah, and my Christmas shopping, decorating and wrapping are all done!
Well, coupla things. Even though I am a recluse, a bad hostess, and a terrible housecleaner, in the last month I have opened up our home to THREE gatherings.
I also coordinated my office’s attempt to do an adopt-a-family thing. The agency I called had already “adopted out” their families’ wish lists, but they asked us if we’d be willing to provide some pricier items that kids had wanted, but that the sgency had felt were too much to ask of the adopters. I said sure. Today I dropped off 5 personal CD players (plus batteries) and a mini-scooter. That felt awesome, because I knew there was no way these kids would have these items otherwise.
I also took dinner over to a professor who had (yikes!) brain surgery recently. He has a special diet now and I think I managed to cook a pretty edible meal that stayed in those parameters.
Today I:
Finally went to the doctor to see what’s up with my wretched cough
Dropped off gifts to the agency
Dropped off some other charity gifts at a coordinator’s home
Got my prescription filled at an independent pharmacy despite impossible parking
Braved the mall to buy Godiva boxes for several gifts
Bought gift certificates to a popular deli/bakehouse around here, for some other hard-to-buy-for people
Returned an item I needed to exchange
Finally found a sport bag for my nephew
Dropped by Kindermusik to apologize in person for missing three weeks in a row due to illness
Prepared 6 packages for mailing
Made and delivered dinner for the prof
Fed my own family decently
Got my son bathed (he was way overdue)
Overall I had a very productive day despite having bronchitis and sinusitis. Most of the time I’m a neurotic disorganized mess, but every once in a while I have a “Wonder Woman” day and today may have been one of them.
I pulled off a decent GPA despite a tough term. I finally declared that Political Science/Chinese double major and am on schedule to finish both next spring. I am working on applying to a school overseas and getting a passport with no prodding from my parents. I just bought my family a Christmas present I know everyone will love. On the other hand, I’m also surfing the net at 12:00 on a Friday night.
