Was Edna Mode patterned after Coco Chanel, as my wife claims, or after the headmistress in “Kindergarten Cop”? That scene of Edna walking alongside Mr. Incredible automatically reminded me of that headminstress walking alongside Ahnold.
Neither - Hollywood costume designer Edith Head.
Edna Mode does bear more than a passing resemblance to Linda Hunt (the actress who played the principal in Kindergarten Cop), even if Hunt wasn’t the inspiration. I’ve noticed the similarity, too.

Pixar released a teaser trailer today. Nothing of much substance, other than it appears Jack-Jack will have a starring role.
Cool, thanks for posting this. Fun spoiler free trailer. I like that type.
The rumor I heard - and I like the idea - is that Elastii-Girl rejoins the workforce and Mr. Incredible becomes a stay-at-home dad, with the hope that maybe she won’t get fired as often for breaking cover. That will entail lots of scenes of him dealing with Jack-Jack and his burgeoning powers.
Oh, god, I hope they don’t overdo the Jack-Jack stuff. A little goes a long way. Like, that teaser would be enough Jack-Jack for an entire movie.
The Incredibles is my favorite animated movie. If The Incredibles 2 is 90 minutes of ‘cute’ baby sounds and random energy bursts as Jack-Jack gets in and out of trouble while Bob chases after him, I will be severely disappointed. For now, I have faith in Brad Bird that won’t be the case.
I have heard the same - and I like the new trailer.
I agree. Too much Jack Jack would be bad.
I really wanna see a Incredibles prequel, however.
I had a weird dream that would work for a sequel. All known powers have stopped working so all Supers need to find other powers and develop those to find who or what is responsible for their primary powers to have ceased. Meanwhile, vigilante groups have sprung up and some of them have taken to hunting the relatively powerless Supers.
My dream plot Incredibles 2 that clearly isn’t happening followed a teenage Jack Jack that didn’t want to be a superhero, and his family needing to accept that.
When I saw this thread resurrected I remembered reading somewhere a plot idea I really liked and tried to remember who had written it. Turns out it was me, in this thread:
So way to go, me-three-years-ago.
Can I ask why, I’m genuinely interested. I can’t think of a single prequel that was worthwhile, they just get you back to a point where you know what happens. Godfather 2 maybe although it wasn’t the main narrative of that story. If you’re going to go to the effort and expense of making a motion picture wouldn’t you want to tell an exciting new story not just some boring stuff where you already know what happens in the third act?
I don’t know if The Incredibles is a good candidate for a prequel (although I suspect there’s a good story there), but prequels in general can be great. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, although not as good as the first, was a fun movie that was in no way diminished by knowing Indy survived at the end. It took the approach of a stand-alone movie with no relation to the first except for the characters; the plot would have made just as much sense as a sequel to Raiders.
X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past were strong origin stories. Whether you enjoyed them or not, they were not made boring by knowing what the characters become later. There are plenty of examples of good prequels that tell an original story of how the characters got to the point where you first saw them.
I think an Incredibles prequel could work, but we already saw quite a bit of their backstory in the opening scenes of the first movie. Maybe an origins movie, with all the characters at the very outset of their careers?
Yes, that would work.
Another trailer is out - and it looks awesome:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incredibles_2OK, so they’re playing up the working-mom-stay-at-home-dad angle. That actually worries me a little, just because it’s such a trope. But hopefully they’ll do it well.
And I’d forgotten how hot Helen is. Well, OK, I hadn’t forgotten, but I still like the reminders.
The first movie was essentially the trope of the husband in a mid-life crisis, and it played out very well, with Bob realizing that he needs his family (and Frozone) to take on Syndrome and the Omnidroid. And realize that many of the scenes in the teaser may not actually appear in the film, and are just setting the context for the story, which they also did for the first film.
The original was a great movie (as some would say, the best Fantastic Four movie anyone has made) and I’m happy to see the sequel finally come out; I just with it hadn’t taken fifteen years.

May I be the first to say:
"that was totally wicked!"
