The Incredibles 2 officially announced

Whoa, has it really been that long?

And yeah, the first one was definitely good enough that, even with being slightly worried, I’m still sure to see it.

Just about… The original came out in Oct. 2004. I had to look it up to be sure.

That’s about the weirdest time interval for me to estimate, personally. There are a bunch of movies I saw when I was in college that I still really associate with that time in my life: Fight Club, Memento, The Fellowship of the Ring… But The Incredibles was just slightly after college for me. I probably would have believed any year up until 2010, maybe even 2011. I knew it had to be at least that old, or I would have had my oldest daughter with me when I saw it in the theater.

She’s got a motorcycle!

Really glad they chose to set the film immediately after the first one. Heck it looks looks like it even starts with the Underminer battle. I’m not really interested in seeing a “5, 10, 15 years later” film with with the Incredibles family. By going this route it gives the pair of movies the timeless feel it deserves.

In the last one she flew a plane. Elasti-Girl is no shrinking violet. “Girls, come on. Leave the saving of the world to the men? I don’t think so!”

If nothing else, I’m looking forward to the inevitable scene with Edna Mode detailing their supersuit upgrades.

Edna: [on Jack-Jack’s suit] I cut it a little roomy for the free movement, the fabric is comfortable for sensitive skin…
[a sheet of flame erupts in front of the suit]
Edna: And it can also withstand a temperature of over 1000 degrees. Completely bulletproof…
[four heavy machine guns appear and open fire on the suit, without effect]
Edna: And machine washable, darling. That’s a new feature.
Helen: What on earth do you think the baby will be doing?
Edna: Well, I am sure I don’t know, darling. Luck favors the prepared.

It’s almost as entertaining as Tony Stark first building and flying the Iron Man Mk 2 suit. “Yeah, I can fly.”

Good to know.
